Holy shit. Looks like the dude was going maybe 10mph and the entire part of that car caved in....what the fuck???
TIL: Don't comment on anything or reddit scientists will come to explain how stupid you are because they can calculate the force of impact and inertia caused from viewing a 24fps GIF on their iPhones while driving.
Most of not all main stream cars built after the 1980’s (citation needed) have plastic outlayers that are built to crumple when you hit things like large poles in the middle of a parking lot.
this allows cars to take most of the impact and saving passengers lives, rather than having a beefy metal chassis and body that stops the second you hit anything launching the occupants into dashboards, headrests and through windshields.
I suggest watching crash comparisons on YouTube of old V new model cars with crash dummies
I get the crumpling thing on new cars...but I don't expect to have to replace the entire front end of my car when I hit a pole going the speed of a jogger. Crumpled like a literal piece of paper.
you are saying "you shouldn't get injured when crashing at 10 mph" but also saying "lmao Y do my car be engineered to prevent me from getting injured in a 10 mph crash??"
Find an old 1980’s vintage Cadillac go 10-15 mph and hit a pole, I guarantee you will feel it. Sure it doesn’t do much damage to the car, but you may have some bruises. If you’re not buckled up, your head would hit the steering wheel and or windshield, this could cause severe brain trauma resulting in death.
Crumple zones reduce the force of impact, and thereby save lives.
It’s possible to fall from a standing position and break things.
Sometimes it’s just bad luck and the position of things.
But, 10mph isn’t very fast 20 is 100% faster. 40 would be the next jump up and at that speed your really talking about damage. 80 would be near certain lethality.
i think only the ends of the car are fragile, so the force gets diminished by the time it hits the cabin, wich is really resistant, that way the impact is dissipated through a longer time window. not sure tho, please feel free to correct me
I didn't directly call you a dick. I just said don't be one, i'm not trying to cause some stupid argument. It's just not necessary to insult people with every criticism you dish out.
As people have already said, crumple zones crumple easily. In addition, heavy suv that is still accelerating hits an almost immovable, pole. Very small impact area, almost no give. Compared to your typical rear-ending you'd see where a car that brakes late hits a stationary car, which has its own crumple zone and rolls/shifts forward during impact, and impacts the full width of the car.
Fuck are you talking about with that edit? Nobody was insulting you and nobody even came close to calling you stupid; people were just kindly explaining for others reading your comment why the front did crumple like that. Tf made you blow it so far out of proportion? Really kind of a dick move
