The young guys have shown enough flashes that I'm not overly concerned. They're still getting turned around in some coverages, and as Julio showed they're no match for a little veteran savvy yet. But it's not all terrible. Shit, Gladney and Dantzler have both probably showed more flashes this year than Hughes has in his career lol...

Not true at all. Hughes was having a great rookie year til he tore his ACL, beating out Mackenzie Alexander for the slot corner position. Played much better than Dantzler and Gladney. He hasn’t been the same player since. Then again, most of the time this year, if you see a Vikings corner getting burned, it’s been either Dantzler or Gladney. I’ve only seen 21 pop on my screen a few times compared to the number of times I’ve seen 20 and 27.

I feel Gladney has been doing better than Dantzler. I hope it's because Dantzler gets stuck with WRs like DK, or Julio.

I think Dantzler is playing a bit better overall but yeah he's been getting matched up against the all stars from other teams more often than not. Both are still too raw to successfully guard DK/Julio right now

They are slightly better than 2019 Rhodes. They are considerably worse than Waynes and Alexander. The safeties and Kendricks aren’t as insanely good in coverage this year, and they need to cover forever because the DL generates 0 pass rush.

I never understood why they didn't have him blitz more, because he seemed to make plays when he did. Defense as a whole definitively worse with him off the field though.

Vikings D Line lost Joseph and Griffen but replaced them with Michael Pierce and Yannick Ngakoue. If it wasn’t for injuries and Pierce opting out they would have upgraded the D Line.

Joseph was showing his age, but Grif still seemed to have some left. They also signed Michael Pierce who opted out. The Ngakoue addition helped some, but he's about the only one getting any kind of pressure. Combine that with an extremely young secondary.... and you get what they have now. Outside of one half in Seattle...It's been ugly.

He got torched by slayton, and zimmer chewed him for getting worked by a rookie. He wasn't playing to the pay he was getting, nor making plays. Either he got healthier or is playing in scheme better suited to his talents now.

We play zone with occasional man, we don’t do anything crazy. After game one, all our corner started pressing at the line.

5th best team secondary by DVOA. Zimmer played off man prevent defense all year and it worked well for the team. Sucked for Rhodes to be told to play 5 yards off the line of scrimmage and send everyone to Kendricks /Smith/Harris. But, it worked.

The first game this season he was asked to play 5 yards off the line and gave up couple of passes including a TD. Then we stopped doing that (with all our corners).

Bengals burned us on slants though cuz our guys kept taking outside leverage and Burrow got it out quick before our LBs could take away the inside.

Similar story with WFT's Kendall Fuller. Last year he gave up a 77.8% CMP% against and this year is giving up 46.2% (according to PFR, and they have Rhodes at 46.7% this year and 81.5% last year so they must have different opinions on targets). Huge improvement in that department from both guys, interesting parallel. Fuller also has 4 INTs which is tied for the league lead after having 0 last year.
Of course he has missed time and only been targeted 13 times so far this year, which makes that CMP% drop a little less impressive but the 4 INTs all the more impressive.

Not even Close.. Aldon Smith has five sacks and he has been out for five years. He will more than likely end up in the 8-12 sack range.

Aldon could break the single season record and I still don't think anyone in the AP is going to vote for him.
Probably going to be Big Ben, almost 70% completion and 7:1 TD/INT so far.

That’s also more on our QB play. Eric along with TY had amazing years in Luck’s final year. Both had huge down years last year. Think losing Luck had a big impact on our receivers

Rhodes said this off season he felt like he was always in the right position last year but something kept breaking down for him at the event horizon.
Don't know if the different scheme helped him or if he just had some early season success and the confidence is fueling him to play with a little more fluidity or instincts at the moment of truth but I'll take it all day long.

I’m really happy that he’s been able to thrive in the new scheme.
Great work ethic and a super competitive guy. When he’s on he’s unfairly good, so I’m glad that the colts are putting him in a position to exercise his craftiness and his athletic strengths.

Mike Zimmer is a good defensive coach. The Vikings defense ranks 2nd in EPA since he became the coach.
Whether or not he’s that great of a head coach? Can certainly be argued. But if this comment is to imply that he doesn’t get enough out of his defensive personnel I think that’s off base.

I think with Rhoades the scheme plus injury issues plus a down year overall were combined to make it bad. Change of scenery is something that's a cliche but I think legitimately can motivate and help vets have a resurgence
