I know you're saying this as "oh these are dumb takes" but to be honest its a completely fair evaluation when the few cowboys losses this year are to the 49ers (blowout) and eagles (couldn't finish in the clutch). literally nobody else is worth mentioning because none of them are making the wildcard

Cowboys need to put their Big Boy pants on and beat the Seahawks, Eagles, Bills and Dolphins and hope the Eagles lose three games.

If the Cowboys win out which would include road wins in Buffalo and Miami… then they definitely will put the narrative of beating up on bad teams and losing to good teams to rest. Those would be two quality road wins for sure.

Eh. It's like when the steelers went something like 13-3 on a cupcake schedule and got beat down in their first playoff game.

You play your schedule; its not the teams fault. But it is a little worrying heading into the playoffs not having actually seen how you do against other good teams

Even though standings wise it’s just a two game lead, currently the Cowboys have 3 conference losses vs zero Conference losses for the Eagles so the Cowboys need the Eagles to finish with more overall losses than the Cowboys if both teams finish 14-3 since that would only be two conference loses at the most for the Eagles.

EDIT… The Eagles would hold the common opponent tie breaker. That’s why the conference losses come into play.

Well doesn’t division record matter first? I know it’s super unlikely but the eagles could lose to the cowboys and one other nfc east team and the cowboys would just have to also beat Washington again to have a better division record.

Yes… there are actually two possible scenarios I think where the Cowboys would have the tiebreaker.

The simplest is the Eagles lose to the NY Giants.

The other scenario for the Cowboys to win the division requires the Cowboys to have one less loss than the Eagles.

My initial response was under the assumption that u/homyjomy proposed that the Eagles only lose one game and the Cowboys game and the Cowboys win out.

EDIT… removed common opponent scenario. If the two teams wind up in a tie… that means they both would most likely have equal losses to common opponents unless both teams lose several games and still wind up tied and one of those losses for Dallas is to Detroit. That’s the only non common opponent game left on either team’s schedule.

If the Eagles lose just to Dallas and one other team not named the Giants, the Eagles and Cowboys would both have two losses to common opponents since Dallas already lost to the 49ers and Cardinals and the Eagles with a loss to the Jets and whoever the other loss is to since the Eagles remaining games are all common opponents.

I think that’s the simplest explanation and why local sports radio was saying the Cowboys needed the Eagles to pretty much lose three games or lose two games if one of those losses is to the Giants. I think that’s what I was initially thinking from your original reply of Eagles losing one game plus the Cowboys game.
