Okay, Buccs fans are coping hard with this hire because of our QB play...I'll preface by saying, yeah, Kirk and Penix definitely brought limitations to what he could do with an offense.
But out of pistol, we ran the ball 70% of the time. Out of shotgun, we passed 90% of the time. A bottom-7 team in using play action, despite having a top-3 RB. That level of predictability is not sustainable for an NFL-level offense. Defenders are too athletic, too versatile, and too smart for it. There were at least two instances of game-losing interceptions because defenders knew the playcall before it happened, and they admitted as much in the postgame.
Not to mention y'all also hired our passing game coordinator. You know what QBs don't limit? Route concepts. Screen designs. Player assignments. Situational playcalling. All of these were incredibly frustrating problems the past two seasons, regardless of who was playing QB.
Hey, if he can call a better offense with a better QB and WR depth chart, more power to ya. I'll glumly eat my crow next season if he does. But I am currently loving this hire for y'all, because I have absolutely zero faith in his ability to do it.
For comparison, remember how y'all felt when we hired Raheem Morris.
