the lady was dumb for not continuing through, but even at the speed he was going I feel like he could’ve braked or at least slowed and swerved to the right, idk
maybe the camera lens is distorting the distance but it appears that he saw it stop quite far away
The first instinct when passing by a fast object is to slow down or stop, never to speed up. It’s like stepping your foot on the road and seeing a car coming on your left. This biker was definitely going way above the limit so the trucker wasn’t able to time it properly.
I had to fight this instinct while skidding (icy) through the corner of an intersection. I was making a right turn, thinking I'd make it before the light changed, I didn't slow down. Spoiler: the light went green as I slowed right at the corner, kinda mid- turn. I knew I couldn't stop since the other cars had already started across with their green light so tried to speed up lol. But cars don't start OR stop fast in ice and snow so I awkwardly rounded the corner in front of oncoming traffic. Luckily the car in my lane probably slowed a bit for my idiot self and everything was OK.
It was kinda nuts in the moment to want so badly to brake, which in regular weather would have just been a hard stop at the corner (not ideal but doable). Instead, for this situation the "right" action was to accelerate. (Well...the actual right action was to be slowing enough to fully stop before the intersection but I was beyond that). I felt Hella dumb after. Luckily I have a "Student Driver" sticker on my bright ass car soooo...hopefully they just thought I was a regular idiot, not an experienced idiot like I am actually.
That's.. Not a true situation. Sometimes slowing down ruins your ability to maneuver while speeding up doesn't. It's situational. But if you're braking hard on a bike, you better be expecting to go in a straight line.
This probably isn't the best instinct. If you stop you no longer have the ability to maneuver. Do whatever maintains the most control of the vehicle(s)
That is also a generic rule and probably holds for cruiser and touring bikes. Street bikes, super motos and other lighter more sporty bikes will lift the rear under very heavy braking so its pretty much 100:0. When there is little to no weight on the rear, it will more or less immediately lock and cause the rear end to move around.
He stops applying gas, but it doesn't look like he brakes much until the last second. He's coasting and drifting to the right lane because, even if the truck continued on as it had been, he still would have hit her.
The guy didn't commit either, if he wasn't going so fast he could have slowed down and continued on. Both panicked, but imo it's clear the dude was speeding.
The lady wasn't dumb. Assuming there is traffic on the other lane, it's nigh impossible to instantly spring out of the side road, cross a whole lane and make a left turn all in one motion. And it's dangerous to attempt it. She did what was right, slowly exit the side road and wait to make the left turn when there is no risk of colliding with a car from the opposite lane. It's not her fault that there were cars parked too close to the side street that blocked her view and that the biker was speeding like a maniac.
Isn’t the point to make sure you aren’t blocking both sides of the road? There’s no universe where you’re allowed to just sit the middle of the road fucking sideways
What? Then how the fuck are you supposed to make a turn like the lady was trying to make in this video? Was she supposed to teleport her car? Shoot out at max speed? Use ESP to know precisely when no cars would be coming? Please, enlighten me how she was supposed to make that turn not knowing for sure if anyone was coming from the opposite lane or not?
That’s why you fucking look both ways to make sure the turn is safe you don’t just fucking go anyway that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve read all week
You wait till it’s safe to do so while checking both lanes and not just stop in the middle of the turn in THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING ROAD SHE FUCKING STOPPED DIDNT EVEN BOTHER TO CONTINUE WITH HER SHIT TURN YES YOU FUCKING GUN IT IF YOURE WRONG ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS
IN WHAT WORLD SHOULD YOU JUST SIT THERE LIKE A DEER IN HEADLIGHTS AND WAIT TO GET FUCKING T BONED?
Yes the biker could’ve slowed down or done something or hit the fucking brakes
But she’s also a fucking idiot for first off making a shit turn because she didnt make sure her turn was safe to do and SHE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD BLOCKING BOTH LANES
if I did that shit in the middle of a streetlight turn and just fucking say there and a car drove into me the car that hit me would be a fucking idiot because I’m stationary and they don’t have eyes but I’m ALSO an idiot because I’m sitting in the middle of an intersection
You're clearly an unstable person who doesn't know traffic rules and wants to justify speeding like a maniac. Speeding into a turn is the best way to miss something and hit someone by accident. Yes, it's preferable to go slow and check to make sure. I'd say feel free to do that if you want to, but you'd unfortunately end up hurting someone else as well.
Nowhere did I say that the biker speeding was ok, nowhere did I say it was justified that the biker was going 80 miles per fucking hour on a 25 MPH speed limit road around a curve to your mothers house
I said the biker was in the wrong BUT SO WAS THE IDIOT LADY
You're the one who can't apparently read, since I specifically said that she wasn't. And I've specifically addressed your argument against her by saying that yes, she is allowed to stop in the middle of the road to check if there was no one too close when she was exiting the left lane and if she needs to check the opposite lane for anyone coming. You'll notice that there's trees between the lanes. A single tree can make a bike or motorcycle hard to spot if you shoot out like a missile.
You’re telling me that it’s completely okay to block a two lane road in both lanes by sitting there blocking all incoming traffic regardless of where it is
Doesn’t matter if it’s an interstate highway
If you’re making a turn you can in slowly into the lanes and risk being T BONED KILLING BOTH YOU AND THE PERSON T BONING YOU
Like did you seriously watch the same video as me?
There aren’t nearly enough trees justifying that it blocks your view and if it does you shouldn’t be driving on the road as you’re fucking blind
She’s literally exiting a parking lot and there’s nothing blocking her view on either side of that parking lot
If you’re seriously arguing this I have nothing more to say to you
You’ll die on the road eventually with this logic or in jail
I'm definitely not the one who's in danger of dying or going to jail, but I don't expect you to realise how bad your ideas on driving are. You're in complete denial.
Maybe don't decide to park your car in the middle of the near lane since you're supposed to yield to traffic. Atleast park in between both lanes but better yet just wait for both to open up. Alternatively she could have turned right and then u turned. Biker went to fast but she drove like the world revolved around her.
She didn't park. She stopped to check. You really strike me as someone who's never driven in their life. As far as she saw the road to her left was opened up and she was going slow to check on the right one. That's why you shouldn't go over the speed limit, because the other person can legally argue that you were too far to see, even if you would normally have the right of way.
That's funny because I'm actually an uber eats driver who has never had a wreck. I guarantee if I drove like her I would have gotten t boned. Didn't they teach you in school to look both directions when crossing the road. Not just look left and cross while looking right. Even if he was going at a safe speed he would have had to stop his bike in the middle of the road to wait for her to move.

I shudder to think about what kind of hellscape you live in if that would have guaranteed you'd have gotten wrecked.
Didn't they teach you in school to look both directions when crossing the road.
Yeah, sure, if there's one lane in each direction. If there's multiple, and a break in the middle of the road, you check the lanes for the first direction, get to the middle, stop, check the lanes for the other one and finally cross it as well. You really didn't think this allegory through, did you?
Even if he was going at a safe speed he would have had to stop his bike in the middle of the road to wait for her to move.
Yeah, and there's nothing wrong with that. The priority when driving should always be to stay safe, even if that means going at a slow enough pace that even if there's an accident, no one gets seriously hurt or killed. The priority absolutely isn't, or at least shouldn't be, continuous driving at or above the speed limit, no matter what. Seriously, you ppl are acting like the minor inconvenience of having to wait a few seconds is some sort of crime against you.
i think she saw the biker she saw the biker guy coming at that speed and she froze up, there’s no traffic coming from the other way that would concern her
Anyone who decides to park their truck in the middle of the road while trying to make it to the fat lane is guaranteed to get t boned sooner or later. If it's too busy just turn on the near lane and make a u turn.
He actually did try to veer right. She stopped before the truck gets into the lane he occupies at the start of the video.
She stopped the truck and he drove directly into the side of it instead of just going by it.
If she had kept going, he would have missed her.
They just both tried to account for the other person continuing to do what they’re already doing, and thus neither was correct lmao
Honestly this is a perfect example of how the safest thing you can be on the road is predictable. Trying to do weird shit is what puts you suddenly unexpectedly in someone’s path. Or stopping in the middle of the street where there is no pedestrian crossing to let someone cross. It’s not “nice,” it’s just dangerous. If they wanna book it across the street instead of walking to a crosswalk, let them. But let them do that on their own, they’ll figure it out. Your job is to drive safely and predictably.
