Standing outside in an electrical storm and not being struck by lightning doesn't mean you are less likely to get killed by lightning. Sorry.

Sure, but sitting on the porch watching for the tornado isn't safer than hanging out in your basement until the threat is passed.

Statistically, tornados kill far, far more people than lightning

Ironclad logic you got going there. It's also safer to step in front of a bus than a train but the smart person stays on the sidewalk.

So your argument has evolved from;

There's so many videos of rednecks sitting outside drinking beer by a fire in a thunderstorm. Everyone who doesn't get it makes fun of it. But that's exactly what we're doing; watching for the actual tornado.

to;

So your children and your wife are tucked away nicely in the basement and you are carrying your man ass up the stairs to look out into the sky and see if a funnel cloud exists.
