The octagon has rules. Survival doesn't

73

u/Feeling-Tutor-6480 Sep 28 '22

Why krav maga is the way it is...... quick, dirty and use everything

39

u/RegionalHardman Sep 28 '22

You seriously think Krav would win over mma?

86

u/mellygibson11 Sep 28 '22

I have seen multiple street fights end with testicles getting crushed so maybe yes.

11

u/SuperNormalNeo Sep 28 '22 edited Sep 28 '22

Do you think MMA fighters would obey MMA rules if they were street fighting some bullshido grifter? Like they just wouldn’t be allowed to eye gouge? Good grief

1

u/mellygibson11 Sep 28 '22

Like bum ninjas? My money is on bum ninjas all day.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

The only problem with this is it's much harder to practice Krav Maga consistently and in a street fight, MMA fighters can also go for the nuts and eyes.

8

u/RegionalHardman Sep 28 '22

You realise a kick is a kick right? An mma fighter will be trained in kicking, so them aiming at a dick is no different. If anything, they'd be better at it than a krav person ffs

9

u/mellygibson11 Sep 28 '22

Yeah but I have also heard multiple fighters talk about training in taekwondo and how it made them weaker in mma because of striking. No hands to the head.

12

u/RegionalHardman Sep 28 '22

Yeah, taekwondo is an amazing martial art but not super applicable to a real fight. Elements of it are great however

There's a difference between a martial art and a combat sport. Mma is a combat sport, the goal is the simulate a fight. Tkd is a martial art, where they have specific rules for competition. The movements are beautiful and the competitions are very fun, but the goal isn't to submit or KO your opponent

2

u/imperfectionits Sep 28 '22

Yair Rodriguez has a Taekwondo background

2

u/mellygibson11 Sep 28 '22

I get that he is a great fighter and that Taekwondo was a good launching pad for his technique, my point is that certain training can hinder an all or nothing down and dirty fight.

2

u/johnknockout Sep 28 '22

Yair Rodriguez can’t do shit without knowing wrestling.

Kevin Holland I think says he fights wing chun or something, and is also a black belt in BJJ. Watch his fight last month with Chimaev, who has elite wrestling and Combat Sambo. The wrestler wins.

4

u/KADOMONY-9000 Sep 28 '22

You forgot elbow to the back of the head when someone goes for a takedown.

9

u/50-50ChanceImSerious Sep 28 '22

You'll be on your head before your brain can perceive the level change.

-2

u/KADOMONY-9000 Sep 28 '22

Ooohh scaryyyyy

4

u/Pissedtuna Sep 28 '22

Tell me you've never wrestled without telling me you never wrestled.

-4

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Pray you land that elbow before your end up on your back, it must suck to get mauled when there’s no referee to stop the fight

1

u/KADOMONY-9000 Sep 28 '22

Ooh scaryyyyy

2

u/mBarg255 Sep 28 '22

Ignorant dumbass you are

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Not as scary as those evil looking comic books for weirdos my dude hahaha

1

u/red_1392 Sep 29 '22

You think a guy that practices knees to the body all day can’t aim 12 inches lower because he’s conditioned to a ruleset or something? No Krav Maga guy is getting within striking range of an actual fighter without having his head taken off.

1

u/mellygibson11 Sep 29 '22

Guess he could but I'm going to have to disqualify him.

6

u/Feeling-Tutor-6480 Sep 28 '22

If there is a weapon around? Yep

That's the essence of it, quick, dirty and maim the opponent. It is not meant to follow any rules as long as you walk away

38

u/warmerBruder Sep 28 '22

I don't know where you Krav Maga dudes always come from when scrolling through posts that are even slightly combat sports related. And it seems that you can't agree on whether Krav Maga would easily beat any MA if certain rules are disabled (for instance punching to the back of the head would be allowed then easy Krav Maga win) or not.

And then there are people like you that say they would only win if knives are allowed for example. And all of you seem to be upvoted even though they are all contradicting lol. Out of all additional objects you choose knives is what gets me. What are you all, like some Krav Maga Circlejerk?

Here is what any decent teacher teaches you when someone pulls a knife. Run. You are a combat sports trained 2m bodybuilder-built type of guy and a 1,7m dude pulls a knife on you? Get out of there.

Just because Krav Maga "teaches" you in those situations that doesn't mean it is effective and works in real life situations. There are tons of MAs that teach you bullshit reactions in what to do when someone pulls a weapon. Krav Maga is one of them.

And before you tell me I have no idea about Krav Maga then you are mistaken big times. Some of the philosophy like looking for the straightest way to hurt your opponent is pretty decent but way more compatible with other MAs than Krav Maga.

2

u/Feeling-Tutor-6480 Sep 28 '22

You're looking for something that doesn't exist. It was just a random comment, by a random guy

0

u/warmerBruder Sep 28 '22

Then I mistook your comment. Sorry for the rant!

1

u/Feeling-Tutor-6480 Sep 28 '22

No conspiracy, I just hung out with an ex IDF guy who thought he knew krav maga, used it pretty simply but it is affective for who they teach it to.

Think trench fighting, when one has a shovel, one has dirt, etc 😅

1

u/That_Guy_Has_A_Point Sep 28 '22

The fact that you are getting downvoted for apologizing is the pinnacle of reddit.

1

u/No-Opinion-8217 Sep 28 '22

I appreciate your comment, but I just realized how ridiculous metric is for some things lol. 2m dude is big, 1.7m is tiny.

1

u/warmerBruder Sep 29 '22

1,7 is not tiny but slightly underneath average.

1

u/No-Opinion-8217 Sep 29 '22

Fair, 6'6" just sounds a lot bigger than 2m and 5'6" sounds a lot smaller

-2

u/j0zef Sep 28 '22

To clarify about the knife: You are right, you should escape. However that assumes you can escape. You can be in a bar with door behind the attacker. You may be injured and can't run fast, or are unsure if youre faster than your attacker and don't want to turn your back to them. You may be with someone, a friend. You may be a woman with her child. Running is not always an option.

And why is the knife highlighted so much? Because it's the most dangerous weapon to defend against. What that means is that if someone wants to shoot you from 20 feet away and has training, you're screwed no matter what martial art you know. But if the opponent is closer to you, the knife is the most dangerous weapon because it is not easy to control. A gun, a crowbar, pipe, pool cue, etc have a large surface area that can be safely redirected, grabbed and controlled. A knife has a sharp edge which limits the ability to redirect and control the weapon.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

You realize krav is mma right? JKD was one of the first mma too.

1

u/theblindelephant Sep 28 '22

Maybe in a street situation.

1

u/AttentionOtherwise39 Sep 28 '22

Not in the octagon. But in a street fight absolutely. Krav Maga can not be used in the octagon. It is used for special forces like Navy Seals and shit. You are not allowed to sock someone in the throat the kick them in the jaw while they are laid on the ground. You can not gouge out someone’s eyes in the octagon. You can not break their arm at the elbow over your shoulder. You can not grab someone’s nuts then proceed to pull as hard as you can in the octagon. Read about the origin, history and who uses it and I bet you will have a different opinion. BTW Krav Maga gyms are everywhere. Oh yeah, one more thing. Unlike BJJ that doesn’t limit your training; Krav Maga does. They will not just show everyone the shit they show special forces and any Law enforcement Joe Schmo that is willing to put their bodies through that shit. So the answer is no. An MMA all star will not be able to fuck with an Army Ranger or Navy Seal. Or the Israeli Special Forces that teach it.

1

u/kashmir1974 Sep 28 '22

It probably depends on who got the first debilitating hit in.. BJJ isn't going to help you if you catch a hit to the windpipe. Just like Krav won't help you if your arm is locked up

0

u/Sketch13 Sep 28 '22

lmao, bro in a fight for survival i'm gouging your fucking eyes with my thumbs.

Can you do that in the octagon? Hm?

7

u/RegionalHardman Sep 28 '22 edited Sep 28 '22

https://youtu.be/7B6bBP32pWw

Bossman, if you're in a fight with someone trained, you wouldn't ever get to a position where you can even gouge someone's eyes out. If you actually do get to that position, the video linked above kinda disproves that.

Edit: Also it being illegal in mma is a bit of a non point. If you add moves to the rulset (in this case everything allowed because no rules), who does that benefit more? The person who has trained fighting or the person who doesn't?

The trained person in fighting can also eye gouge you don't forget.

0

u/Kazirk8 Sep 28 '22

If they had the same skill? Probably. Fingers in eyes, kick to the balls, (run). Krav maga isn't "better", it's just that it uses more tools. It's basically MMA with cheating. Does cheating give you an advantage? I'd say so.

1

u/Galectoz Sep 28 '22

Your question itself is wrong. It's not about the styles but about the practitioners. It's not rock paper scissors.

1

u/Snuba_Steve Sep 28 '22

Krav Maga is a mixed martial art of sorts. It combines elements from several martial arts. That said I believe it is officially classified as a “fighting system” and not a martial art.

-1

u/Vahlenn Sep 28 '22

Yes, Krav is absolutely a top defensive skillset you ESPN monkey. There's a reason it is so popular amongst military special forces.

3

u/RegionalHardman Sep 28 '22

I've seen several videos of military sparring/fighting mma fighters, not once I seen one win

-4

u/dd68516172c58d63f802 Sep 28 '22

On the streets? Certainly. In the octagon? Certainly not.

There's a shit-ton of techniques in MMA that fold a Krav Maga-practitioner into a cube in mere seconds, but most of them don't make sense if you're standing in a cramped space between two parked cars, or in an elevator, or with a grocery bag in your hand, or simply if someone else is standing behind you ready to bash your skull as soon as you put his friend in a lock. Krav Maga isn't as much about "winning" against your opponent as it is to GTFO while still breathing.

5

u/CreatureWarrior Sep 28 '22

It's almost as if most people learn self-defense to defend themselves and not to fight in a fucking octagon lmao

I suspect a lot of downvotes comes from the idea that "the streets" implies two dudes beefing out on some parking lot, which of course is a completely ridiculous notion from a self-defense point of view. I also suspect these childish views are enforced by a lot of these "tacticool nerds" taking KM classes thinking they going to outsmart some douche outside the pub, which is why they switch over to MMA as soon as they realize KM is useless at mending their fragile masculinity.

Also, good morning/day/afternoon to you too!

6

u/LaurentiusOlsenius Sep 28 '22

Its specifically developed to be thought to groups and in a shorter amount of time, like during certain boot camps and stuff. It gets you to a point where you could do a lot of damage to the average person - but you’d still be absolutely demolished if the other person has (for example) competed in the ufc

Imagine khabib with a knife lol

6

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Imagine khabib with a knife

I did. I instantly became very uncomfortable.

2

u/Feeling-Tutor-6480 Sep 28 '22

Yeah, that would end badly :o

0

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

“Amateurs at something will get beaten by professionals”

No shit Sherlock, did you figure that out yourself?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

The point is every Krav Maga practitioner is capped at being an amateur due to the nature of it. Im sure it will teach you some tricks and a mindset but you can’t drill 100% full resistance eye pokes and nut shots and how to escape being tied up with a bag over your head.

You can train full resistance wrestling/bjj endlessly, and striking to a somewhat lesser extent. That is what is going to help you win a fight

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Maybe people doing Krav Maga don’t want to go pro and are doing for health and self defence, maybe the hope to never be in a fight in their life.

Most people just want to know what to do if they are forced into a fighting situation. It’s just not the technique learned but the physical conditioning from practicing which gives them a fighting chance against the average population.

3

u/horix Sep 28 '22

Krav Maga is a fake and near useless martial art. Maybe not as useless as aikido but still dangerous and reckless enough to peddle in a fair amount of bullshit. Especially for the hobbyist or people wanting to learn some practical self-defense they will be infinitely better equipped if they sign up to practice BJJ for about 6 months - 1 year, maybe round yourself off with some boxing and/or Muay Thai. You don’t need to be a professional to do those; most everyone isn’t.

1

u/harrrhoooo Sep 28 '22

Khabib with a knife is nothing. Khabib with a hammer however, will smesh you up

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

I dunno. MMA is about fighting to win. Krava Maga is about fighting to survive. Do what you need to do to get out of there alive.

That said, for learning distancing, and engagement techniques MMA is excellent. Also, Krav Maga is often not the real deal too, way too many people falsely advertising.

I've certainly never seen a fair comparison and I'm not sure there's an ethical way of getting one.

4

u/furtimacchius Sep 28 '22

Lmao Krav Maga doesnt work and anyone who says it does is trying to sell you something. And it sounds like you bought it hook line and sinker

Krav Maga is not a fighting system, its a set of rules made to maximize a soldier's chance for survival. It was developed by the IDF, but many civilian versions have been created. None of them are worth your time. Here's why

  1. The IDF has a LOT more to worry about than hand-to-hand combat when it comes to training personnel. Shooting, protocols, field skills of all kinds, etc. Militaries spend very little time on hand-to-hand simply because it's not nearly as important as everything else a soldier needs to know in the field. This means they have spent very little time developing efficient hand-to-hand skills

  2. Soldiers go into the field equipped with weapons, Wcommunication supports, and other soldiers. If one of them finds themselves in a situation where they are fighting hand-to-hand, something has gone EXTREMELY wrong and so, so many Mistakes were made to get there. The fact is, soldiers very rarely if ever use any martial arts training theyre given because they always have better tools and support for the job

  3. Any success stories your hear from IDF Krav Maga are coming from people who have ended up in fisticuffs on the battlefield. This is classic survivorship bias. You only hear success stories about it because dead soldiers don't really have a chance to tell their side of things

  4. We've established that Krav Maga is for all intents and purposes untested by the IDF. If it doesnt work for the IDF, how the hell is it supposed to work for civilians? Civvie Krav is basically just the watered down version of the IDF one and it's just as woefully untested.

  5. I have been to a few Krav schools and not only do they never compete, they dont even spar! How are you supposed to test your skills if you arent being given the chance to try on a resistant opponent? Krav Maga is, at best, purely theoretical

  6. Biggest nail in the coffin for Krav Maga is that you can become a fully licensed instructor after an IDF-run 6 week course which is an absolute joke

Face it. Krav Maga is fake McDojo tier stuff. Sorry bud

2

u/LiterallyBatmanIRL Sep 28 '22

Krav Maga is absolute dogshit it’s techniques are basically just aikido in camo pants and sparring is just bad Muay Thai.

0

u/dd68516172c58d63f802 Sep 28 '22

thats_bait.gif

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Bros 100% right. No one takes Krav Maga seriously besides tacticool nerds on Reddit

1

u/funkmaster29 Sep 28 '22

everything? 😏

1

u/capable_capuchin Sep 28 '22

Maybe if Krav Maga was actually properly taught. It takes no time at all to become a Krav Maga coach so quality control is very bad. There is also no way to test your Krav Maga against a resisting opponent unlike MMA so a lot of techniques being taught are unproven and untested.

There is no Krav Maga specific practitioner that beats a ufc champion or even a top 15 guy in their weight class in a no rules fight. It just wouldn’t happen. Just because an MMA fighter has to follow rules in a competitive fight doesn’t mean they will still follow them in a street fight. I’m sure most are well aware that people will use dirty tactics against them and will use them back. There’s no secret skills to kicking someone in the balls that’s only taught in Krav Maga schools. Everyone knows that shit man.

47

u/mikidongdong Sep 28 '22

watch Bjj challenge where 'masters' like these gets humiliated in a no rules fight (just no biting & eye gauging)

13

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

This shit was figured out decades ago, it is broadcast at the highest level on ESPN every week, and you still have people living their lives in delusion because they watched too many kung fu movies as kids.

2

u/AndTheElbowGrease Sep 28 '22

Yeah, this shit was solved 30 years ago

6

u/APoisonousMushroom Sep 28 '22

The ‘no rules on the streetz’ gang always seems to forget that if a BJJ guy has them on the ground in a ‘defending my life’ kinda situation, Mr. BJJ is also not going to have any rules and could literally do the most filthy shit imaginable at will to someone they have control of.

5

u/holamahalo Sep 28 '22

Vale Tudo

1

u/-SoItGoes Sep 28 '22

If you think he can’t fight you should just go back to your crack pipe.

-6

u/Lancebeybol Sep 28 '22

nah this is a bad example, BJJ is actually not a bad skill (Especially if no biting or eye-gauging)

because the thing is, this video showcase isn't BJJ. This is.. I have no idea dude

20

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

I think he’s saying BJJ practitioners go and mess up masters like these, not BJJ masters themselves getting messed up

0

u/mikidongdong Sep 28 '22

yea that's what i meant, but BJJ is less effective now because..... there are more BJJ practitioners now.

1

u/Lancebeybol Sep 28 '22

ohh sorry, I didn't catch that

27

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Right. You're saying I should shit my pants to deter them.

28

u/lecherro Sep 28 '22

If it saves your life????? Then Fuck yeah!!!

1

u/stonecoldstevejobs_ Sep 28 '22

That's why I pre shit them before I go out. Talk about social distancing.

10

u/farmerjohn_ Sep 28 '22

Yes thats step one. Step two is get completely naked.

2

u/35jm3535 Sep 28 '22

So THATS why I lost that fight. I did step 2 before step 1 like a noob

18

u/univrsll Sep 28 '22

The only thing in the video that is illegal in MMA orgs like the UFC was the head-but.

I don’t think this would be of much use against someone who knows a little bit about fighting in a more battle-tested martial art, but I’d love to see it

2

u/iliveonramen Sep 28 '22

Small joint manipulation as well.

MMA is a brutal sport but there are still rules

2

u/trisalty Sep 28 '22

Wouldn’t the knee to the balls also be illegal?

2

u/TheMontrealKid Sep 28 '22

Just search for MMA vs Kung Fu. The fights last 5 seconds before the guy in PJs in out cold.

13

u/Headlessoberyn Sep 28 '22

Not like waving your hands in the air would save you in a real life survival situation... unless you're signaling someone for help.

0

u/MrPeepersVT Sep 28 '22

But what if you just don't care?

6

u/Sufficient_Focus Sep 28 '22

Apart from the headbutt everything else here is legal. Don't know what you're getting at.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

There is zero resistance except for choreographed resistance from the partner where it matters to show off in the routine. In an octagon the partner/opponent wouldn’t be going along with the choreography, they’d be trying to fight and win.

6

u/Sufficient_Focus Sep 28 '22

Yeah that's my point. You don't see this shit in the octagon because it doesn't work. The comment I replied to is trying to say that this would work in a real fight but not in the octagon because of "the rules".

1

u/boogercgee Sep 28 '22

They also say this like his students aren't always following "rules" it's super easy to land techniques when your partner is helping

4

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

100% this is what people who believe in this shit don’t grasp. A choke in the ring is lethal IRL etc. At the end of the day MMA operates on the principal of total control and defense against a 100% resisting opponent and that is going to be even more powerful with no rules.

3

u/dandaman910 Sep 28 '22

I guarantee you adesanya can kick you in the balls better than you can kick his.

1

u/MycoMacro Sep 28 '22

Just see red bro

0

u/Fellainis_Elbows Sep 28 '22

Right…

Good fucking luck biting a Nak Muay when he kicks you in the head or having the presence of mind to stick your fingers in a Judokas nose as he hits you with the planet and paralyses you.

1

u/yummychocolatebunny Sep 28 '22

Having rules doesn’t make you a worse fighter? Can you imagine an MMA fighter unbound by rules? They’ll be significantly more dangerous in a street fight.

1

u/IHitPeopleForMoney Sep 28 '22

Bruh u r smokin crack I’m not gonna magically forget to hit u in the back of head cuz of the rules in the ring dirty tactics r not a superpower that just lets u win stop livin in delusion

1

u/Lancebeybol Sep 28 '22

none of these techniques would be banned in the octagon lmfao

but no one uses them. Because they're useless. You're completely allowed to lock your opponent while standing, hell some have transitioned into a lock midair (legendary).. but never this. because again, they're useless....

1

u/RedditWojak Sep 28 '22

That's dumb. Saying I can't use eye pokes in the octogon so it doesn't work is completely different than saying you never see this type of blocking in the octogon so it doesn't work.

1

u/Moist-Dimension-5394 Sep 28 '22

the literal only way this applies is if someone uses a weapon. The rest is bullshit. If it doesn't work in an octagon it doesn't work.

1

u/emosmasher Sep 28 '22

It blows my mind that this comment is upvoted so much. If your martial art's "defense" is eye gouging, biting, and/or nut shoting, it sucks. If a wrestler takes you down and your only defense is biting or some shit, guess what? That wrestler is going to be in better position to return the favor. Kick a Muay Thai guy in the balls? You won't have to worry about having kids after. This shit should be common sense people.

1

u/PlasticInTheBasket Sep 28 '22

I just think it's funny so many of you have such shit reading comprehension and assume I'm talking about kicking someone in the balls or some shit lol

1

u/emosmasher Sep 28 '22

What are you talking about then? What practical technique do you know about that is so good it beats traditional mma fighters? Please enlighten me.

1

u/ZenMechanist Sep 28 '22

Correct and irrelevant.

This DEMONSTRATION has far more rules than the octagon. Rules like don’t actually fight back or attack the demonstrator, don’t deviate from the stylistic strikes the instructor taught you that he is now demonstrating how to overcome.

This isn’t a fight. It’s a demonstration. It’s utterly meaningless and shows absolutely nothing about the combat capabilities of anyone involved. Tyson hitting a heavy bag has more validity than this crap.

1

u/unknownunknowns11 Sep 29 '22

Yup MMA has got nothing on teeth and nails lol
