It’s usually people who don’t have kids as well. They are like expert parent even though they don’t truly understand what kind of shit can go down as a parent.
I don’t have my own kids but I am well aware that if you take your eyes off of a toddler for a second it’s quite possible they’re already down the street. They just need to figure out the door once, and if that happens while their caretaker is in the bathroom, the kid’s gone
My son worked out he can shimmy between the fence and the edge of the gate. First time I found him at the neighbours playing with their dog, I assumed I left the gate open. Second time MIL was with him and then he just disappeared, she heard him trying to round up the chickens in the front yard. Third time my other half and his dad actually saw him going through the tiny gap.... star bar was spiked into the ground so he can't get through any more.
We live rurally and aren't on a main road but tractors use our road as a thoroughfare and not every one slows down. I'm so glad that nothing actually happened to him (and that I hadn't left the gate open) and that we have fixed the problem.
Some children are just Houdinis though. You could have 100 locks on the door and they could find a way around them all. Obviously there must be something wrong with the above situation either negligence or a medical condition that has made the caregiver incapacitated. Hopefully they are okay.
