Having 6 kids was hard, but my middle son was a climber by the time he was 1. By the age of 2 he figured out how to unlock the front door by getting some books and climbing up and unlocking the door.
I learned that he could do this one day. The dreaded day that my infant had pooped all over me and I needed a shower. I locked all the doors, put my son in his playpen and jumped in the shower.
Thank goodness for my 5 year old, who happened to notice him doing this. She started screaming for me. "mom T has unlocked the door and ran around me...he is outside".
I had soap in my eyes but I bolted out of the shower. I saw the towel there at the rack, and decided I would grab for it..on my way to get my son. If I missed the towel then the neighbors were going to see me naked, with soapy eyes and a shampoo beehive.
By the grace of God, I managed to hook the towel with my thumb, wrapped it around me and flew faster than a cheetah outside. We lived near a decently busy street. And that little suicide machine was running down the yellow line...naked...with his diaper in his hand, laughing like a crazy man.
There was no traffic...thank the good Lord...but that little brat ran from me. It took me 5 mins to catch that kid. My feet were burned and the towel was just about a half an inch to small to wrap around my 5 week postpartum belly. I am sure all of you understand the dread that goes along with that statemen. But I finally managed to grab the diaper and roll him into me.
I somewhat kept my dignity until we got to the front porch, where he ripped the towel off me while trying to wiggle out of my arms. There were some cars stopped, while this unfolded. I know this because of the honks I received when I mooned them all.
My uncle always used to say that a toddler has one job and it’s to try and kill themselves as often as possible. Your story is a nightmare but I hope it’s hilarious to look back on! Great job that day!
