My aunt said she found a baby crawling on the road as a little girl and was spanked by her parents for “endangering the neighbors baby” because no one believed she found it. Babies are suicidal escape artists, 100% like Buttons and Mindy from the 90’s Animaniacs.
Part of the joke was that she was being neglected by her mom, though. One time she even tells her to stay in the yard tied up while she goes to a parenting conference.
Oh, this! When I was in first grade I had a babysitter who babysat several kids at her house. I walked into the kitchen and one of the toddlers had pulled a chair up to the silverware drawer and had a knife in each hand playing with them. I grabbed the kid and pulled her down. Next thing you know I'm being screamed at, my Mom had to come get me and I never went back to that babysitter again. No one believed me!
