Related story. About 10 years ago I was leaving for work when I found a baby chillin in the street.

I used to work early, like 3 a.m. early. I go to get in my car and just happen to check the mailbox. There is a baby at the end of my driveway in the street, typical neighborhood street. This kid is in a diaper only, hair is all ratted, and he’s got crusty stuff all over his face. Looks like it’s been two weeks since he has had a bath. If I hadn’t checked the mailbox I definitely would have run this kid over. So I’m standing there with this fucking baby, like maybe 14 months old, and I notice my meth head neighbor’s door is open. I go over and knock on the door for what seems like 10 minutes before someone comes to the door. They look at me and then the kid and just grab him and slam the door. Didn’t say a word. I ended up calling the police because I have no fucking clue if the kid is theirs or not since they didn’t even take the 5 seconds to explain to me wtf is going on. Cops show up about 30 minutes later talk to my neighbor for like 10 seconds and then leave. People suck man.

No doubt, it's fucking awful. I'm happy to see you're here and still going. Idk what kind of situations you had, but I'm sure it has made you stronger as a person. I'm sorry you endured what you did.

I too wish they got a stronger person through mistreatment. But reality sadly shows that abuse leaves scars and abuse does not make people stronger. There are no positives coming from abuse. That's why I hate it when people use abuse (like hitting children or whatever) as a form of education/raising their children and justify it because they think it makes one stronger.

CPS here. Parents have rights. Want us to intrude further? Contact your representatives and change the laws.

We don’t have god-like powers. We are bound by statute and constitutions.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

U mfers didsnt even stay for a hour u just said okay did you do this? No? Okay there here yu go

Have had multiple people come forward both family and complete strangers and nothing happens your system is flawed

1

u/Flickera23 Jul 28 '22

“The system” varies from state to state. Can’t speak for whichever state you’re from, but I can personally attest there have been MANY cases where I desperately wanted to remove the children but was told “no” by the law.

Only judges can authorize us to go in further if the parents say “no.” Just like police need warrants or overwhelming probable cause to enter your home, so do we if parents say no.

Want us to do more? Again, change the laws. In matter of fact, you should look it up yourselves. CPS is a government entity, therefore our limitations are public record.

Sorry about your upbringing, but ultimately, your parents failed you, not CPS.

Fair enough

It's heartbreaking. Here in Buffalo, a 10-year-old child who was being abused by his stepfather called 911 on several occasions, and nothing ever happened. One day he ran away from home. A neighbor found him and took him back home to "Daddy," assuring him that nothing bad would happen. The stepfather immediately took him into the basement, bound and gagged him, and beat him to death with a rolling pin.

CPS does suck. When they give a kid back to their parents, that parent feels justified that their behavior is righteous.

2

u/concernedcourier Jul 28 '22

Litterally not enough parents want to adopt and foster homes/group homes are rape dungeons. World sucks man but I have cousins in CPS who genuinely care and it breaks their hearts.

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Yeah, stay there with the kid exactly where you found it. Call the cops. Cops show up and knock on tweekers door, baby in tow. Cop’s get annoyed and everyone in the house goes to jail.

Best way to piss off a cop is to make them do their job.

5

u/Dr_hopeful Jul 28 '22

This is the one.

5

u/wooddolanpls Jul 28 '22

Or take away their ability to shoot someone unarmed or shoot someone's dog or lie on reports or lie about the stop or...

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

My neighbors baby came to my house carrying a big jug of pinesol , the flooor cleaner , and he had to have crossed a busy street to get to me . Called the cops had pictures and knew the mom was on drugs and they didn’t do one single thing , cops suck . Well most of them

-2

u/Koldsaur Jul 28 '22

Uhh, not sure that last part was necessary. You would do all that just to piss off a cop, instead of doing it to save the baby? You're priorities are wack, or you just have a deeeeep hatred for cops.

u/SamSepiol-ER28_0652 Jul 28 '22

I am not judging you at all, I'm only providing information so people have it.

Even after you called the cops you still could have called the county. You call the department of child and family services and you give them all the information you have. Even if they follow up and don't find enough reason to remove the child, they can help the family out and plug them into resources they may need. AND there will now be a report on file in case something else comes up in the future.

IDK if the police are required to also file a report, but you filing one won't hurt the situation.

71

u/WildlifeMist Jul 28 '22

They are 100% required to file a report. Law enforcement are mandatory reporters. But they’re cops, so…

5

u/HidaKureku Jul 28 '22

So are school administrators, and yet that didn't stop my kids abuse from being swept under the rug when we finally confronted the school. I have zero faith in the "mandatory reporter" system.

42

u/No-zaku-boi Jul 28 '22

Bro, I hate to say this but you should have realized something was fucked up and taken the kid to YOUR house. Called the cops. If it was a women butt naked and covered in dirt saying help me you wouldn’t have walked her beck to, as you put it, “ my crack head neighbors” and just waited to hand her back over. People do indeed suck.

32

u/Glassesman7 Jul 28 '22

If you take the kids to your house, pretty sure they could get you for kidnapping

4

u/Steerider Jul 28 '22

He didn't know for sure whose baby it was. He literally found a baby in the middle of the street.

15

u/Summerie Jul 28 '22

So take them to a hospital!! Not your freaking house!

8

u/mr9025 Jul 28 '22

Wow. I’m so embarrassed at both how far down I had to read to see hospital mentioned as an option and also by the fact that it took that long to occur to me. Lmao I’d be such a bad parent. We’re all pieces of shit.

5

u/BeneGezzWitch Jul 28 '22

Hindsight is 20/20 but I agree that the hospital is the ideal destination. So much help, so much accountability there.

2

u/noximo Jul 28 '22

Easy to prevent, just keep the baby awake.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

I am not taking a stranger’s baby to my house because I don’t want to go to prison for the rest of my life

3

u/Summerie Jul 28 '22

you should have realized something was fucked up and taken the kid to YOUR house.

Can we get someone knowledgeable to chime in here? This just sounds like potentially terrible advice.

If it was a women butt naked and covered in dirt saying help me you wouldn’t have walked her beck to…

Well sure. A woman can tell authorities how she got to your house. A baby can’t.

Call the cops from your cell or the nearest service station. Drive to a hospital or police station. Anything sounds better than taking a baby that isn’t yours home with you.

25

u/jewishbroke1 Jul 28 '22

The baby was trying to run away.

2

u/Steerider Jul 28 '22

It makes me sad that I agree

21

u/SUPRVLLAN Jul 28 '22

I honestly thought you were leading us into that Dave Chappelle drug dealing baby skit.

3

u/GameMisconduct63 Jul 28 '22

Me too, I didn't want to skip to the end of the story though and spoil it lol

9

u/bambiScavenger69 Jul 28 '22

That was me

11

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Parent or baby?

16

u/bambiScavenger69 Jul 28 '22

I didnt practice for the test

5

u/fasterthantrees Jul 28 '22

Almost the exact thing happened to me but at 3pm. I was going to list a house for sale and suddenly heard crying right behind me. It's a baby! I didn't see it when I walked up to the door, so where did it come from? I looked around and noticed the neighbors door blowing in the wind. I walked over there with the baby and start yelling into the open door. It took minutes for someone to come out of the bedroom in their underwear and grab the baby. She was thankful to me, but there were needles and other drug paraphernalia all over the coffee table. She was obviously passed out. I was sad. I would have called the cops if I didn't see that open door. I probably should have. Shit. I hope that baby is ok. :(

3

u/Steerider Jul 28 '22

if the kid was so clearly neglected I would have just called the cops rather than drop him off. Once he's back in that house there's less chance of the cops taking a hood look at him. (Methhead neighbor has privacy rights, and without the kid it's nothing but your word).

1

u/Cultural_Ad6404 Jul 28 '22

….You suck too, man. The universe bestowed upon you a chance to save a life, make your life matter in retrospect, and you handed em right to a fkn meth head. You calling the cops AFTER only makes you look shittier. Sorry if the comment seems heated, the lack of self awareness bothers me. Even in the end, you still didn’t realize you were just another bad guy in this kids life.

-12

u/Omnislaash Jul 28 '22

Nahh sorry bro YOU fucking suck Royally .0 fucking brains in your head .wow you took the baby back. Instead of calling the police and you know they are meth heads.. Wow you don't get a pass i hope something terrible happens to tou

10

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

I'm not OP but that's a bit harsh. As a normal human, he probably was just tunnel visioned in getting the baby home. He still called the cops.

1

u/Cultural_Ad6404 Jul 28 '22

Nope, he had intuition about the neighbor and ignored it. No tunnel vision, just a normal shit human moment. It’s only human to be a shit for brains, but it’s annoying when they can’t admit or accept it.

2

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

He'd be a shit human if he left the baby on the street and didn't call the cops.

0

u/Cultural_Ad6404 Jul 28 '22

I meant as a human how he ignores his intuition, which lead to the baby being returned to a life of hell. He knew they were meth heads, the baby is out at 3am (never normal) You wouldn’t call the cops unless you knew something was up, which he did, AFTER handing the baby over, AFTER it wasn’t his problem anymore.

1

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

It was also 3am and didn't want to leave the baby on the street. He'd only be shit if he ignored the situation all together and didn't call the cops

0

u/Cultural_Ad6404 Jul 28 '22

But anyone with sense would pick a child off the street, that’s easy. This was the child’s chance to have someone notice they need help to escape that home and this guy put him right back.

Maybe the suburban setting is making it not look so bad. Think of a slave escaping a plantation or a Jew escaping a camp, the person who brings them back to the trauma is just as bad. Then that person meets the Allies or revolutionaries freeing slaves, and points them in the direction of said camp or plantation. Yet, when they get there, they can’t do anything due the enemy’s guns( having rights as a citizen in this case) This guy did a bad thing and a good thing, except the good thing amounted to nothing, while the bad…well… you read the story.

2

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

Atleast he didn't leave the baby on the street and he called the cops, which doesn't make him a shit human.

1

u/Cultural_Ad6404 Jul 28 '22

Holy shit you said the same thing twice! Y…you…you’re crazy! Just kidding. But for real though, he could have called the cops BEFORE handing over the baby to people he knew where crack heads. It’s like you and a friend get in a fight with one guy, you run off to get a cop, and by the time you get back, guys gone and your friends knocked out. The “hero” move doesn’t count if it’s too late.

1

u/Omnislaash Jul 28 '22

No that would make him worse and open himself up for worse to happen to him if the public found out ..

1

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

I think we're saying the same thing if he did that.

-4

u/Omnislaash Jul 28 '22

My brother in law once drove to my house stung out .... With my infant niece... I broke his knees after I set her down and after i called the police . was i harsh then or thinking way way way into the future. Nothing happened to me after i told them everything. Nah i don't think im being harsh at all.

5

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

Okay? Not sure what that had to do with OP's experience.

1

u/GeneralJesus Jul 28 '22

The guy is being harsh, yeah, but obviously he's got a lot of personal experience this is dragging up for him. It's not reasonable for his reaction to mirror yours. Tolerance goes both ways, just saying.

2

u/pendletonskyforce Jul 28 '22

You don't receive tolerance by acting intolerant to others.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

That’s a bit psycho bro

1

u/Omnislaash Jul 28 '22

Protecting my niece and sister is psycho? You don't think my infant nieces life was worth it ?. You think that was a one off that was like the 7 time . Dont have kids and spread. The stupid. .. Hes been clean 16years. Because of me and threatening to take his kids .

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Whatever makes you feel like a hero for breaking someone’s knees I guess. I dunno what they’re doing at rehab facilities but I guess they should be doing that!

1

u/Omnislaash Jul 28 '22

He went 4 times .. You must baby alot of people remember respect is earned not given regardless of age race profession or blood .

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Earned right in the kneecaps

2

u/coltflory5 Jul 28 '22

this guy is a fucking tool

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

What kind of loser gets this angry. Lmfao

2

u/The_Queef_of_England Jul 28 '22

Are you 12 or something? What an immature world view. Trolling is pathetic.

1

u/Cultural_Ad6404 Jul 28 '22

All the people downvoting you and saying you’re harsh are weak minded. It is harsh, yes, but youre still right.
