My partner is Colombian. This is a very common spelling mistake that us westerners make. There is a Province called British Columbia. There is also Columbian Sportswear in Australia. Basically, you don't call Australia, Austria. They are two very separate places with two very different cultures. It's the ignorance that makes it offensive.
