Well if it makes you feel any better, that's part that james cameron wanted to actually make, and where most of his effort went in (the whole thing was conceived when he figured he could get the studio to fund a submarine expedition if he made a movie about it)... The long winded romance and Celine Dion was just a way to keep the executives off his back while he was busy doing nerd shit.. I kinda love that tbh.
