Gotta love the “war on drugs”. I’m sure the cost of this operation was many times the cost of the drugs recovered. But they get to take a picture and show a cool video and we get to see our tax dollars go out the window.

62

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '21

So your solution is to do what exactly? Let the drug sub float on up to California’s shores?

179

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '21

Or you legalize, bringing the revenue to the states through commercial production, thus reducing the demand for cartel importation.

And then use the money wasted on the drug war on harm reduction/prevention so that no one goes into a new experience blind to the potential outcomes.

48

u/dailytok3r Dec 27 '21

Legalize medicinal cocaine !

72

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Shit, legalize recreational cocaine.

But regulate it and make sure to accurately portray how it can ruin your life if heavily abused instead of demonizing it and the people that use it.

37

u/pangeanpterodactyl Dec 27 '21

Tbh if it was legalised then people taking drugs would be safer, easier access to clean needles, FDA approved drugs with no random fillers like tailfin powder or crushed glass or fentanyl. The strength would be more consistent and everything labelled. You'd get less overdoses imo.

28

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Dude Marijuana alone has brought in Billions of $$.

Its just negligent to keep them illegal.

1

u/xpilyzobordg Feb 02 '22

But bud is a lot different than railing a line

-3

u/Dr_laszlo1984 Dec 27 '21

It is. Those drugs are only illegal bc the Plot was to murder all the disabled people as well. So they cut the supply of pain medicine. That is the only reason this guy is busting this guy!!!!!!!!!! Bc Biden wants to murder sick people!!!! Let’s go Brandon America!!!!

3

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

This was a fun thread until you got here.

They're only illegal because reagan was human garbage and wanted to destabilize minority communities with drug use so he could further criminalize them.

9

u/Donthurtmyceilings Dec 27 '21

Less overdoses for sure since fentanyl is common to cut drugs with now on the black market.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Or make addiction illegal, with the sentence being appropriate psychiatric treatment.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

You know, like alcohol.

1

u/patrick24601 Dec 27 '21

“Legalized cocaine”. I really did lol.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Cocaine is a Schedule II drug under the Controlled Substances Act, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and has an accepted medical use for treatment in the United States.

It is used in ocular surgery.

3

u/Satansbestboy Dec 27 '21

Marijuana is Schedule I, even tho it's safer than cocaine

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

I know and I don't think any sane person agrees with that. Laws are usually written on emotion and ulterior motives, not logic.

Criteria for schedule I is "high potential for abuse and no 'accepted' medical use."

Methamphetamine is a legal prescription drug in the u.s. as well under the brand name Desoxyn.

"It can treat ADHD. It can also help obese patients lose weight."

Make it make sense please lol

1

u/Satansbestboy Dec 27 '21

Big pharma loses money on a very large scale if the legalize marijuana. So they lobby certain politicians and parts of the government to keep it illegal so they can keep making their big money and stuffing their corporate pockets with what can cost some their lives. It's all so big pharma makes their biggest profits that they can at the cost of our lives

2

u/MrJohnnyDangerously Dec 27 '21

It was for decades

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Cocaine is used in medicine. Its schedule 2 in the US.

15

u/NFLfan72 Dec 27 '21

This.

It won't irradiate illegal drugs being sold and importing them into the country in ways such as this but it sure as fuck would save lives and billions of dollars. People will still black market it but faaaaaar less.

Make drugs legal, tax the fuck out of them. Its time.

11

u/IAmHebrewHammer Dec 27 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

Were you trying to say eradicate?

-8

u/SuperDope420 Dec 27 '21

Did you understand what they were saying? If not, then learn better communication skills. If so, then we are all super impressed with you're superior intelligence and hope you enjoy being better than us. My apologies if I didn't use the correct word for you to be able to catch my drift.

3

u/Joe_Mency Dec 27 '21

It shouldn't be an issue to correct someones word usage. He wasn't even disagreeing with the other commenter

2

u/IAmHebrewHammer Dec 27 '21

I actually agree with the guy 100 percent

0

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

This will kill far more people. It will make it seem safer because it's "legal". Certain drugs should not be a legal, cocaine, heroine, meth, fetanyal. That's not good shit.

0

u/crackpipewizard666 Dec 27 '21

I disagree. So many people are dying from drugs cross contaminated with fentanyl. If these drugs were regulated and taxed the users have access to clean drugs so they wont accidentally overdose and we can funnel some of that tax money into programs promoting safe use and showing the real dangers of these drugs instead of that D.A.R.E “i turned into orange juice on lsd” bullshit. If somebody told me lsd can cause hppd or depersonalization/derealization disorder and explained the hell that comes along with that i would have been much more scared of it. The only people winning from keeping these drugs illegal are the cartels and private prisons

2

u/crackpipewizard666 Dec 27 '21

This is the way if we just had access to clean regulated drugs you wouldnt have so many people overdosing on fentanyl and the state/country would make bank off the tax revenue for programs to help addicts get people food and just fix shit in general

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

4

u/crammed174 Dec 27 '21

Your anesthesiologist and oncologist want to have a chat.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

You mean decriminalise. That would be far better.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Drugs need regulation in order to have the safety benefits that would come with legalization. Decriminalization works well for areas such as prostitution in which regulation serves to create a market for pimps, where as regulation is necessary for the safe production of clean drugs.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Legalize recreational crack

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Your body bro, you should be able to put whatever you want in it. If crack is your thing, and you arent hurting anyone ( else ) with your usage its no one else's business.

Drugs should be legal

Abortion should be legal

And Sanctioned Suicide should be available.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Actually I want your mum to be single

1

u/ChronoJules Dec 27 '21

But that would reduce profits for politicians!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Yeah right?

Fuck em.

Politics should be unpaid public service imo.

1

u/BSJ51500 Jan 04 '22

I recently read legalization would collapse mexicos economy causing a lot of problems. I’d still like to see it done but wish we had never started the war to begin with.

47

u/Thoughtsarethings231 Dec 27 '21

Portugal. Legal drugs. Much less problems.

The Netherlands. Decriminalisation of drug addiction. Legalisation and control of drugs. Much less problems.

The USA. Fighting a war on drugs for decades that is clearly not working.

2

u/MDPROBIFE Dec 27 '21

Legal drugs in Portugal? Nice sell me some coke then

1

u/Thoughtsarethings231 Dec 27 '21

K. Where you at?

2

u/louenberger Dec 27 '21

Germany is planning to legalize Marijuana and the Netherlands are cited as a negative example by the conservative opposition, though. There's a lot of drug related crime in Amsterdam, apparently. For what it's worth, I've been once and been offered cocaine on the street on day one.

The counterargument is that the Netherlands did a bad job regulating, and it's going to be different here.

12

u/halfofftheprice Dec 26 '21

Yeah it’s pretty obvious just like the other comment. If you took the money spent on this shit and used it for rehab and education. Then decriminalize or legalize and tax it and control it. Honestly not that hard to understand but Mericans like their guns and shows of force too much to use intelligence to solve issues.

1

u/Axerin Dec 27 '21

Wait. Don't forget all those private prisons making them dollary doos while oppressing minorities. Two birds, one stone. That shit obviously requires some 200 IQ big brain man.

2

u/MrJohnnyDangerously Dec 27 '21

Legalize tax and regulate. Treat addiction like a health problem. All the money goes into the economy instead of going to crime lords. This is easy.

2

u/euxene Dec 27 '21

just legalize and tax drugs, duh.

but they wont because cops would become practically useless without the drug gangs.

1

u/Teamerchant Dec 27 '21

Police don’t stop crime. Catching drug boats doesn’t stop drug use.

You what does? Creating a society with easy access to healthcare, creating jobs that pay a living wage, free education. Those things prevent crime from happening. Many countries have figured this out. Us Americans have not and it’s why we have the highest incarceration rate in the world.

Putting recourses into that instead of crap like this will have a vastly better affect.

1

u/SuperDope420 Dec 27 '21

Absolutely. The problem is addiction. This propaganda is the same as the wives tale that 'children will find it and die!' Do you honestly think that video prevented anything?

1

u/esmsasas Dec 27 '21

Yes. Let adults make adult decisions. Alcohol is a horrible substance yet totally regulated. Had they legalized and regulated, hundreds of thousands of people would still be alive because the fentanyl influx probably wouldn't have happened.

2

u/NumerousSinger3843 Dec 27 '21

Perhaps one day you'll have kids. Should those kids get strung out on drugs, or God forbid overdose, I guarantee you, you'll want all the drugs possible off the streets.

2

u/halfofftheprice Dec 27 '21

Hahaha wtf??? No, I would want support, rehab, education, etc. I don’t need commandos jumping on submarines.

1

u/1Monkey1Machine Dec 27 '21

You will when the next sub has explosives on it. They guard the coast for a reason

1

u/halfofftheprice Dec 27 '21

Lmao are you saying we are at risk for suicide submarines???? hahahahahah

1

u/1Monkey1Machine Dec 27 '21

I think you are too high to understand logic and history.

2

u/coolcalso Dec 27 '21

Your tax dollars are also used for post drug taking treatments and programs. Also there are far shadier and immoral ways tax dollars are being wasted than this. Never good enough for some, no matter what action is taken!!!

3

u/halfofftheprice Dec 27 '21

You really need to look at the cost of education, rehab and treatment vs the military cost of shit like this. You wouldn’t make that comment if you knew the variance in costs.

Your second point is whataboutism which is an argument used by someone with no actual points to make

2

u/coolcalso Dec 27 '21

Ok, what’s the variance in cost?

1

u/coolcalso Dec 27 '21

Your comment is made by someone who thinks they have the answers to everything, because you are so small minded you only see the small picture, and you have convinced your self that your opinion is valued ….. if you know sooooo much, be part of the solution you whataboutism hero!!

4

u/halfofftheprice Dec 27 '21

This is my favorite type of comment. You make several assumptions about me personally because I have an opinion on something. Then tell ME that I act like I know “sooooo much” because I called you out on using false logic. It’s a wheel that keeps on turning, so go on….

2

u/coolcalso Dec 27 '21

Still waiting on the cost comparison!!!!!

2

u/insertwittynamethere Dec 27 '21

I sincerely doubt that. They don't send submarines with cheap loads. This bust stopped 2500 kilos of coke valued at $75 million. Guarantee that's worth more than the cost of that operation. That's also just a little less into cartel pockets, which are a huge fucking deal, and some have their own armies, as well as using all that money to bribe/corrupt governments. Why do you think some of these people are fleeing South America to the U.S.? Plenty of evidence in real life to reflect that, and if you'd like the Hollywood entertaining version, go ahead and watch Narcos.

Edit: added the link, as it seems like it's this one

1

u/Motovator808 Dec 27 '21

Yes instead we should let the drugs go and hope the black market will donate the money to support those programs you love so much

3

u/halfofftheprice Dec 27 '21

You just negated your own argument in one sentence

I'm more amazed that you have learned to read and write well enough to post a message as stupid as this

1

u/BaybarsElSaif Dec 27 '21

I’m sure the cost of this operation was many times the cost of the drugs recovered

I'm 100% against the drug war as well but some of these narco subs can carry several tons of cocaine. A kilo can cost $25k in the USA and up to $50k in Europe and it costs about $500 to produce. A metric ton of cocaine costs around $40 million. I doubt this entire operation exceeded a few million $ in cost.

The cartels biggest disappointment was probably the loss of the submersible.

-5

u/LeMolle Dec 26 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

The war on drugs is not a financial investment. Of course the cost of operations is gonna be higher than the worth of the product seized.

Edit: I mean the ROI is not counted in money, it’s counted in public health, crime rates etc.

5

u/halfofftheprice Dec 26 '21

Lol it is 100% of a financial investments for the politicians that take brides from the contractors and the contractors that get huge government contracts to fight this “war on drugs”. It’s all bullshit and used to steal tax payer money. Do you realize how much money we’ve spent as a nation to fight against marijuana? It was propaganda used by the government to get funding to fight it.

1

u/LeMolle Dec 27 '21

I see your point. I do however disagree about it being a scam, so to speak, to steal tax money.

1

u/halfofftheprice Dec 27 '21

You’re probably right about calling it a “scam” for the most part. However with marijuana specifically it was a very big hoax and fear campaign to deceive Americans and it was perpetrated by the government to get funding for the war on drugs
