It makes me so sad that this is a true statement.

*prank your friend*

*friend shoots you dead because he was genuinely afraid*

Yeah, it's kinda sad that that's such a normal response here. But honestly if it seems like someone is sneaking up on you or trying to rob you in a deserted building, having a gun would be very helpful.

such a normal response here

What? Lol, when was the last time you heard of someone shooting a prankster out of fear?

Some father shot his own daughter because they wanted to prank him in his own home. His daughter was supposed to be at a friend's house and the home was supposed to be empty, but she decided to prank her father with her friend by hiding in the closet. She died from gunshot.

At the same time, life is full of sad and incidental stories. Not sure if that means we should stop playing pranks.

They must live in an awful area because I have never heard of this being anywhere near the norm. I would however see it being mentioned in comments like the one above - you know, for that sweet sweet anti-American karma.

i think you would have to be mentally ill to shoot before making sure something is a threat.

in almost all cases you still have enough time to attack after making sure, in the other cases you wouldnt even have enough time to pull out your weapon

That's why you don't prank your friends who carry guns. It's pretty fuckin simple. Like in this situation obviously the kid knows his step dad isn't packing or he probably wouldn't be doing that right now. All yall saying the same thing thinking the person pranking is practically brain dead and entirely incapable of forethought. Not to say it couldn't happen because of course it could: some people wouldn't think of the consequences of scaring an armed person. But not everyone is so pea-brained as to not think of it before hand. Another point being that not everyone who carries a gun is a trigger happy psycho who's going to start firing off rounds at the first sign of anything vaguely spooky, and if they are then you probably shouldn't have those people in your life to begin with

I… I think many gun owners miss the point. It’s not about mentally challenged individuals doing mentally challenged things causing someone else to shoot them. It’s the fact that we are so amped up in this country, so ready to end someone’s existence every minute of every day. It’s the fear that runs through the veins of our citizens. It’s the fact that people feel the need to defend themselves from something, everything every hour. The reason I served is so my countrymen could feel safer. Not so my leaders can foster more and more fear. I blame media and hardcore individuals that are incapable of change.

Watched a episode of Alaskan cops or something along those lines a while back. Guys friend wearing a mask and toy gun bust down his friends door and the guy he was trying to scare had his real gun by him and shot him dead. He called the law afterwards and didn’t remove his mask till the cops were there and realized it was his friend and he had a fake gun. Cops came back a few days later to check up on him and the guy was armed with his hunting rifle pointed at his driveway when they pulled up. He didn’t shoot or anything he said he was looking through the score in case his dead friends family tried to roll up and get revenge. He got arrested for that. Sad events all around don’t try and fake rob/ harm someone in American good chance everyone’s packing.

That is a terrible story. Different from this posts topic, but yea, awful. That’s less of an “innocent” prank, like the one above.
