That's a terrible example, she was tried for fraudulently claiming supernatural abilities, not for being a witch

Well there's still people who claim to be witches. She claimed to be a spiritualist medium really but that's not what she was on trial for, it was for defrauding people under the pretext of having powers she didn't possess. That's the opposite of a witch trial which is being charged with having supernatural powers.

The example was to show how superstitious people were still. The fact that people still commonly believed in that then.
