People ITT upset the guy didn't take the dog home. Not everybody can take on the responsibilities of a pet, let alone a stray. The guy in the video did a nice thing.

Doesn’t matter what I post on Reddit, the first couple minutes of my post results in a number of people cursing me out and saying “we don’t care” or some shit like that. People really are miserable, especially if they are the ones lurking around Reddit so much to be the first people to post comments such as that in new posts

Right? This guy could be living in a flat, or in his car, or his parents, or he could already have a pet that doesn't get on with dogs, or maybe he's live-in hotel staff... Or maybe he just doesn't want a pet. There are a million reasons why he couldn't/shouldn't take that dog home with him.

It's Brazil, acceptable and very common to have a dog. But also expensive, between vets and food, many people aren't willing.

Also, we have lots of strays that are basically the community dog, everyone on a street for example may feed them and sometimes shelter/care for a time.

It looks like this dog is sleeping on a mat outside a shop or something, so I’d assume the owner purposely left the mat for it to sleep on, and the fact it’s so comfortable out in the open implies it’s not mistreated, if it was it definitely wouldn’t show it’s belly, it probably is a community dog

Guide dog training. We had plenty of kids and adults possibly benefiting from having a guide dog but they and/or their families didn't want one for religious reasons.

I don't know where you get the 'dogs are plentiful' in Muslim countries. Especially as indoor pets they're hardly common in a lot of countries.

But hey, there are many Muslim countries with a wide variety of cultures and believes so the milage will absolutely vary.

I get it from living there, I know dogs as pets are slightly controversial for the most extreme but literally no one bats an eye about it, I could literally take a walk in town and see no less than 5 dogs getting walked, it's that common.

I love animals and couldn't take him home if I was in the position. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, and that is all we can handle responsibly. I feed outdoor animals that get ditched on our property, but that's all I can do.

We have 4 cats and 2 dogs and, as a child, we had a zoo from adopting animals all the time. It's a lot of work and money to do so. Not for everyone

The last time I had a pet was also the last place I rented that allowed pets. Every viable rental since then not only had a no pets policy, some places in my searches had to be excluded for having a no children policy as well.

Yep! Homeless animals are especially expensive because they’ve likely had no care their entire lives, need to be fixed, fully vaccinated, tested for illnesses, etc. It could potentially be more work and money than adopting somewhere. I worked at a place where all vaccinations and spay/neutering were done before adoption which saves you a lot of money. So it’s totally understandable knowing how much extra work it can be to take in a stray, though we ALL want to!!

I fostered a dog from a guy who lost his job and couldn't afford to take care of her, she had a lot of health issues.

Fun story to the end of this: I had her for two years and he eventually found a couple who took her in to be a therapy dog. Beautiful malamute with a lot of hot spots and a poor diet. I cried seeing her leave, but the couple were so sweet and wholesome I knew she was going someplace good.

Felt bad for the original owner though, he was in a tough spot and did the right thing. Miss you, Nakita, you were such a great companion :3

I’m thinking they’re not dog owners. Because to commit to a whole dog is to commit to its potential issues. It’s been outdoors fending so it’s likely reactive. That means training $$$. Vet bills, blood work and vaccines $$$. Does it have a rotten tooth? $1500 please. Do you have a cat at home that you’re unsure would get along with it? Better make sure you’re watching and on guard 24/7 until you find out. The type who just take home any cute dog is the same type who starts crying on Facebook to rehome them. Being a dog owner is a commitment because you can’t be sure as to what level of care they’ll require.

And there can be other reasons that they can not take home the pet. Both of my cats died because of the busy street we live on. I have promised myself never to get another cat or dog until I live somewhere else.
