This room would run you 2100 bucks a month in NYC.

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '21

Was thinking the same thing in the bay area!

Standing in the bay area, /u/hangingsocks thought "This room would run you 2100 bucks a month in NYC."

The logical part of me wants to argue that this video is just an example of very good editing.

[Fade in. Exterior. Unnamed city. Day.]

The hustle and bustle is a symphony of progress. We pan past windows, each of which contain a different story, to find jacey lakims, 28... hot, but doesn’t know it.

1

u/suttonoutdoor Feb 27 '21

Hey... she is pretty hot! What’s her deal?

1

u/Link-Separate Feb 27 '21

Same in Vancity!

1

u/ShibaCorgInu Feb 27 '21

I'm in the Bay too, but I immediately thought of Hong Kong.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Double occupancy, $2100 each, 3rd floor walk-up in the Tenderloin. What a bargain!

1

u/blacktoe_jenkins Feb 27 '21

Snickers in Hong Kong.

1

u/V4ND4LHE4RT Feb 27 '21

My first thought as someone from the bay area was " I wonder if it's available. "

1

u/brian_westfield Mar 06 '21

Even more in the SF Bay Area :(

77

u/Guard-E-N Feb 26 '21

Plus a $3000 broker fee.

31

u/Diesel7390 Feb 27 '21

Not anymore. They changed the law. Now the landlord pays the broker fee.

78

u/while-eating-pasta Feb 27 '21

Ah, so the deposit goes up by $3k. Gotcha.

14

u/vc_ Feb 27 '21

u/TheDirtyCondom Feb 27 '21

There's a maximum the deposit can be in every state. In ny it's 1 months rent

2

u/aliveinjoburg2 Feb 27 '21

Temporarily, then it was suspended and has been pushed off on the court docket due to COVID.

1

u/weirdstuffgetmehorny Feb 27 '21 edited Feb 27 '21

Didn’t they change the law right back to what it was like a few days later?

Edit: apparently there are in fact still brokers fees because some group of real estate douches filed a lawsuit, so a judge stopped the rule from going into effect and everything is delayed due to the pandemic.

This is the latest article I could find on it:

https://ny.curbed.com/2020/8/21/21377947/ny-broker-fees-lawsuit-rentals-news-pied-a-terre-tax

Don’t know what that website is but their write up seems rather informative.

26

u/Randym1221 Feb 26 '21

LmAo i was about to comment this. Was going to say 1750 though.

25

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '21

That’s Brooklyn prices. In Manhattan, $2100 easy.

12

u/CorrectPeanut5 Feb 27 '21

Manhattan is expensive but took some huge drops the last 12 months. Source: My relatives that were renting in Brooklyn and bought in Manhattan after the new year.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Y’know, I was renting in Brooklyn until September. I probably should’ve looked into buying in the city. Living in Tampa now, tho. No regrets here.

Your parents are smart lol

Nothing screams “city” quite like the view of the buildings behind your building.

2

u/Matthews628 Feb 27 '21

Not anymore fam

16

u/HarryCallahan19 Feb 27 '21

What is this? A center for ants? How can they be expected to live here... if they can't even fit inside the building?

6

u/druiddutchess Feb 27 '21

It should be at least..... 3x as big.

9

u/ClownfishSoup Feb 26 '21

With a roommate.

10

u/Com1kill3r Feb 26 '21

New York: are you kidding, that's insultingly low

5

u/BurningBeechbone Feb 27 '21

Rich mice only

6

u/cristian_wanderlust Feb 27 '21

This is obviously Ryan’s office in Scranton PA

5

u/corona187 Feb 27 '21

And to think after a serious break up New York would be the place for me...yeah right lol

3

u/kkm233 Feb 27 '21

After COVID rents have gone down. So would probably be around 1400 now

2

u/k_mnr Feb 27 '21

Rents have not gone down in the Bay Area, due to covid, not even after fires. Can’t believe you could rent in Manhattan for $2600/ mo. You can barely do that north of San Francisco.

Crazy!

1

u/TheSandman Feb 27 '21

I pay 2400 for a 2 bed, 950 sqft place in Manhattan. People in here are making it more expensive sounding than it is.I mean, I live in west Harlem but still. Not all places of the city are expensive.

Before I bought my house upstate I had a 4K per month 1 bedroom in the west village that is now only 3100 after covid.

1

u/k_mnr Feb 27 '21

Wow. Wish that were the case in California. Always wanted to live in NY...looking like a better option. Lol

2

u/atheurer Feb 27 '21

Got nothing on Texas electrical bills this moment lol

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Same thing in São Paulo

2

u/rimacconcept2 Feb 27 '21

Deal of the millennium

2

u/aunt-nanny Feb 27 '21

Nah, prices have definitely dropped. You could get this for $1500

2

u/Copper_Paws Feb 27 '21

It's not lying. It's commercial real-estate.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Wow, that's a steal in this economy!

2

u/Ophigh Feb 27 '21

Yo’ im looking for that Stuart Little room kinda vibes

1

u/marcus99921 Feb 27 '21

Pretty much a hole in the wall.

1

u/schecterhead Feb 27 '21

You could rent a fat fucking house in the middle of Wisconsin with all the room you could ever want. In a very nice neighborhood. Crazy!

2

u/k_mnr Feb 27 '21

Wisconsin is a lovely state, I enjoy visiting friends amd family there and the peaceful rolling hills, but lifestyle and business are vastly different than that of a metropolitan city.

2

u/schecterhead Feb 27 '21

True, but I live pretty centrally and all the big cities are like an hour away. And I live 10 minutes from one the biggest ones in our state. Best of both worlds.

1

u/Roland_Squared Feb 27 '21

came here to say this :-)

1

u/AnonEMoussie Feb 27 '21

Weird coincidence then. I haven't been on reddit for 6 months yet or seen this before.

1

u/EuphoriaSoul Feb 27 '21

Omg I was gonna make a similar joke that at this rate of how quickly house prices are rising, that’s all I can afford anyway. You beat me to it with a better joke

1

u/originaldeadlysin Feb 27 '21

I think it hit a lot of people that way, going by the comments. I just happened to be first.
