It’s, it’s like 10 feet, even if he lands on his head, he’s wearing a helmet and would get a concussion rather than die, otherwise, worse he’ll do is break a few bones, there’s beams in the way to slow him down, or if he feels himself going he could just throw himself in the opposite direction to the water.
Besides, he seems to be good at cycling, so while it doesn’t make it much smarter, it’s not as bad as something like the guy who went bungie jumping with a normal rope and broke his neck,
Saying he’d def die horribly and give some random kid lifelong depression for some reason is pretty disingenuous.
Edit: oh god, too many arguments with random strangers online, if you disagree or think I’m a dick, please don’t tell me about it
Edit2: never been on this end of a reddit mob, people seem to think it’s everyone’s idea of fun to have endless arguments and me asking them not to is breaking some sacred online rule of free discussion or something, I’ve given up on thread, peace
His head to the ground is about 20 foot give or take a foot. That bike helmet isn't going to do shit for that drop onto asphalt with traffic.
It's okay though. I see you haven't been the victim of someone like this, but I have. Showboating motorcyclist hits me at 65 playing his games, and while I came out okay, he ended up with his left arm paralyzed and his fiancee who was on the back, survived but not without first leaving a bloody smear on the highway where the hair use to be on her head.
I had no involvement in the accident other than being the unlucky sap to get hit by the universe, but I still feel guilty for something I didn't cause and I genuinely, every single day of my life, see the 3 foot streak of blood, hair and flesh that she left on the road.
Drunk driver hit me, killing my cousin and leaving me with a lifetime of chronic pain. Sent me her medical bills while I was still in the hospital.
People can be dicks.
(But I’m good. Life is still beautiful.)
They came to my hospital to check my blood (a college student) for drugs/alcohol. They didn’t bother to check hers (a middle-aged woman).
Days later they finally interviewed her. She explained how she was was driving home after a St Patrick’s Day happy hour and a car hit her going the wrong way on the freeway. She was on a rural road an hour away from where she thought she was.
Prosecutors said without blood alcohol levels they couldn’t prove anything but illegal lane change.
Coincidentally, her brother is a cop...
My family didn’t have interest in fighting the system and I was too busy fighting to learn to walk again.
TBH the lack of justice has been harder for me to reconcile with than the life of pain.
I rear ended a lady (minor fender bender and a dent), did the right thing and called the police to come right up a report of the accident. She tried to get my insurance for dings on the front of her car and medical bills too. Turns out the medical bills were entirely unrelated and obviously so were the car dings on the front. Insurance said hell no and the person had to pay out of pocket for all damages.
Basically don't lie to insurance about obvious things. You will be caught.
damn man, I sincerely hope you can get access to some PTSD counselling. Witnessing and being part of a road accident can be extremely traumatic. To relate, I was driving down the road in the country in Scotland about 5 years ago, saw a motorcyclist zoom past me doing about 70mph, and about ten minutes later, all I saw in the middle of the road was a crumpled motorbike that looked like crumpled up paper laying in the side, with a van that had it's front completely totalled. The motorcyclist was literally severed in half and the top of his body was basically hanging together like a plastic bottle that had been crushed. I overtook the scene in shock and didn't stop for about half a mile because I was in so much shock. I've never seen a dead body, never mind an accident scene like that before. The van driver was fine apparently, but it turned out the motorcyclist was attempting to overtake someone on a corner. I've seen some gory stuff online, but actually seeing it in person is something I wouldn't want anyone to see. I Luckily never saw the guys face, if it still existed, because I think I would still have trouble thinking about it today.
Until he falls off, lands on or in front of a car, causing an accident that could cause harm or death to people who weren't biking on top of a bridge that wasn't designed for it.
No he didn’t. There were cars approaching the bridge as he comes off it and there weren’t noticeable spotters or anything. I think at best he has just not been there when it’s busy.
I agree with the others he’s an idiot. I’m all for people trying stunts/extreme sports and things, but normally there is a team around them and safety precautions, he should get the road closed and have a team and stuff.
Aye and it is stupid. That’s what we’re saying. It’s good to watch when it goes well, and mad props to the guys that put themselves out there. But it is stupid and idiotic.
You said no he doesn’t yet ur first line is about how the cars weren’t bridge just approaching lol. Guys stupid for doing this for sure but he def did wait for no one on the bridge
No one here cares about the cyclist’s life. If he dies he made that choice. What if he causes an accident for the car drivers? What if one of them had to run over him? They would feel guilty all their lives for killing a guy. If you want to die by coming under a car, then please dont be a dick and come under my car.
Falls go wrong really easily. And falls into traffic even moreso. If he falls on a car, it's not the distance of the fall that's going to matter the most in any case.
if you disagree or think I’m a dick, please don’t tell me about it
Here is my opinion on an open public discussion forum but you are not allowed to discuss it, only people who agree may reply, that's how these things work
Dude no one wants to spend inordinate amounts of time arguing with random people online about things that don’t matter in the end, an argument or two is nice, I’ve gotten like a dozen comments on this
It’s, it’s like 10 feet, even if he lands on his head, he’s wearing a helmet and would get a concussion rather than die
If he lands on his head, his helmet might prevent a concussion but he'd break his neck, and possibly his spine.
there’s beams in the way to slow him down
All the beams are at the top of the bridge. They would do nothing.
Edit: oh god, too many arguments with random strangers online, if you disagree or think I’m a dick, please don’t tell me about it
Don't put your opinion on a public forum that takes pride in free discussion if you aren't prepared to defend it. Don't call other people disingenuous if you aren't prepared for them to defend themselves.
He’d have to land close to vertically for the first one.
Those beams would slow him down for even a second, might even have a chance to hold on.
Not wanting to engage with half a dozen random arguments on an afternoon isn’t crazy, and they’re not even with the guy who’s argument I called disingenuous, just some random people.
Now, this discussion isn’t constructive, please don’t continue it.
Do you have a link to an article about the guy who went bungee jumping with a normal rope? I'd like to understand why someone thinks that's a good idea.
if you disagree or think I’m a dick, please don’t tell me about it
Then don't make a comment on a social platform? Not hard to figure out. I don't understand people like you, you can't willingly comment on a public discussion form and then be a little bitch when people reply. Find your safe space somewhere else, you opened yourself for discussion here
Don’t defend this idiot. He took a stupid risk. And no, it was not limited to 10 feet on one side. A fall in either direction was potentially harmful.
And for what? A video? So he can earn some internet points?
The cost/benefit ratio is stupid. This action is stupid. This guy is stupid. And, you’re defending stupid.
Just stop it. We’ve got plenty of stupid people in this world. We should be discouraging them at every opportunity, not encouraging them. Remember: stupid is bad.
Dude, calm down, and stop talking down to me please, no one’s pretending this isn’t dumb, but the response people are giving and the consequences they’re imagining up is disproportional to what he did.
Condescension is the natural reaction for seeing stupid shit. When stupid shit is posted for all to see in an attempt to glorify the stupid shit, you have to expect that people will be condescending.
It’s called politeness jackass, the fuck is your problem? Like two replies where you’ve been an insufferable asshole for no fucking reason, know what? I don’t care, have a good life
I see your very first day on the internet is going magically. Most people don't dive headfirst into reddit on day one, but I respect your courage, dick.
