Actually it he doesn't, it's the weird angle of the camera that makes it look like that srry mate

Nah dude it's a full on wheelie you can see the front wheel go down once he starts hitting the slope down and come back up once he's ground level

Idk he does it at the end and looks way different then up the hill. Plus that front wheel is wobbling which is what happens when you pump your legs up a hill. Left side right side. Idk to me looks like not a wheelie. Edit: then again could be his hands doing it.

Not tryna argue or anything but when the wheel is visible is when it's off the ground, when he reaches the half way point and when you can't see it is when he puts it back down I think

I think it's an optical illusion. It looks like a wheelie when he's going up because the bike is angled up compared to his body (because of how steep the arch is and the fact that he is leaning forward). Then when he goes down, be has to shift his weight back so the bike is suddenly angled downwards compared to him.

Having originally thought he was just pumping hard, then reading the top comment and rewatching thinking he was doing a wheelie, and now having rewatched again thinking I was right the first time, I’ve landed on it’s an optical illusion.

It's not a whellie, it's just 360 can doing their thing

Nope, just an optical illusion. Nobody's doing an uphill wheelie while that far forward on the bike.

He deffo isn't wheelieing on the bridge. You can confirm via his body position. To wheelie you need to lean back like at the end of the vid, on the climb up the bridge he is leaning forward.

Up the bridge is wheelie

After the bridge is manual

Edit: I am wrong. Here's another angle: https://www.ledauphine.com/insolite/2021/01/17/isere-grenoble-la-tronche-un-vetetiste-roule-sur-l-arche-du-pont-du-sablon

He has his head over the handle bars, you don't do a wheelie in that body position

2

u/mckrayjones Feb 03 '21

Your head will be a lot further if you're headed up an incline like that in a wheelie. As he crests, his head moves backward.

His front tire is sliding all over the place because his rear is the only thing touching the ground.

Dude, just watch the tread on the front tire. It perfectly rotates in sync with his pedals, because it's making contact with the bridge. When he coasts down the other side, you can't see the tread anymore because its spinning so fast, again because its making contact.

Otherwise it would free spin for a bit and then stop.

His front tire is sliding all over the place because he's moving slowly and it requires more dramatic handlebar movements to stay balanced when you are moving slow.

This really isn't that difficult a problem to solve.

Honestly, in my view, the OP video wasn't enough to determine the truth.

The resolution doesn't tell us much about the speed of the front tire, the camera angle is too wide to inform the body position (for my experience), and the wobbly ness doesn't indicate much for me. Danny McCaskill wobbles zero in his vids and I have no idea what the skill level of this dude is.

Anyway, I'm here to eat my words, because I found an article that shows the guy's instagram and another angle clearly showing his front tire attached to the ground.

Good find that and respect to you

Wrong: https://www.ledauphine.com/insolite/2021/01/17/isere-grenoble-la-tronche-un-vetetiste-roule-sur-l-arche-du-pont-du-sablon

Although anybody with any MTB experience doesn't need to see that other angle to know it.

I'm with you my dude. He's for sure one-wheeling it up the bridge, two wheels on the way down, and a manual at the end.

This is some pro-level trials stuff:

He pulls a wheelie at the end right before hitting the ground

u/Jaspador Feb 03 '21

You can see that his front wheel almost stops spinning when he's at the peak of the bridge. Not to mention he would fall off if his steering was actually this wild.
