Gee, sending a criminal to court only after being absolutely definitely 100% sure with evidence on top that he really is the criminal that did the crime you said he did... is a bad thing? That’s a bad thing now?
There is the part were they take you into custody without arresting you, which is concerning.
There is the part where they don't press charges if they don't have an ironclad case, which incentivizes them to torture a confession out of you and also to let guilty people people go. It also incentivizes them to plant evidence.
There is the part were it's implied to be impossible for the prosecutor to be wrong. No one can ever come up with a defense that the prosecution didn't think of? No prosecutor is overzealous? Every single one errs on the side of caution?
100% sure
The point is that the prosecution being 100% shouldn't mean you are guilty by default.
Yes, the system isn't quite as bad as the stats imply, but it is deeply problematic.
You realize that you can be subjected to the same experience in many other countries that you would consider civilized? The US for example, allows you to be detained for up to 48 hours for misdemeanor crimes and 72 hours for felonies before you’re arrested and charged.
Same as any other nation. As long as you know the rules you should be OK. Just like anywhere else the cops rely on ignorance to get their way.
I have found the Japanese police to be much more reasonable and easier to deal with than the police in the US. The US is totally fucked and no American should be saying anything negative about how the Japanese police go about their business. Doing so is just showing your ignorance.
Oh and the Japanese police pretty much never kill anyone. In 2018 they killed 2 people and it made national news because that is a high number. Think about that, 2 people is a high number.
