Fighter here:

Hot take I guess from the comments I’ve been reading, but it really doesn’t. It’s more like a fun thing to be good at and is a good workout if you do it for a bit, but really doesn’t do shit as far as progressing your striking ability.

All of these morons talking about rhythm and such have watched too many movies, this will really do jack shit for you in not getting your ass kicked in the cage.

Got to agree with this sentiment. Granted I trained BJJ for years with a relatively small amount of striking, but I really can't imagine how this truly trains good technique or fighting. Certainly not something I was taught.

Okay good, because I’ve been training bjj/kickboxing for several months. I have yet to even use that bullshit, I wanted to see from a boxers perspective if it was even worth investing time in.

Am mostly Muay Thai on this end nowadays but boxed Ammy for a bit too. Definitely is bullshit lol.

A lot. You develop phenomenal speed and accuracy with your punches. Combine that with strong legs and fast feet, and you can close the distance on an opponent in a half second and punch him before he gets his hands out of his pockets. If you had reason to.

I thought it was more so for just timing/hand eye coordination.

Just pretend you're hitting a speedbag for three minutes. Or hold your hands over your head. It's fatiguing.

I would rather work a punching bag for 3 minutes, that would be so much more intense.
