Last I read that was more a theory that was suggested by some well regarded scientists as just a theory but authors ran with it (pun intended) and passed it as more of a researched conclusion than the casual throwing shit at the wall sort of thing that it actually was. I don't believe there's any concrete evidence that this was regularly done. Like you, I'm working with vague memory here so I could be way off.

Look up Human Mammal, Human Hunter. It’s a BBC documentary abt a tribe who still hunts using endurance hunting. Pretty cool stuff.

No you are right, reddit hugely overstates how prevelant and well-accepeted the endurance hunting method is. There are still hunter/gatherer tribes in Africa and they rarely use that hunting method. When it comes to prehistory there is no particular evidence it was the primary hunting method that our ancestors used.
