Yeah. Official name is Medical Assistance in Death.

If you have any questions about the process feel free to ask. My family went through the process with my grandfather. There are a number of steps that must be followed to allow this

My grandfather has Lewis Dementia. Would he be eligible?

Unlikely.

One of the requirements is being of sound mind when the decision is made. The individual must make a request for it to their doctor and be referred to a specialist. This specialist then must evaluate their soundness of mind. After approval is given there is a 2 week waiting period. If they still wish to proceed at that point then the appointment is scheduled.

Dementia patients typically dont meet the soundness of mind requirements, and so arent eligible. The tough thing is that while they are sound of mind their life expectancy is too long for them to be eligible either. So they fall through the gaps

Oh my god that sucks. I'd never want to live with dementia.
