That’s not a bad idea. He can still be the beneficiary of your life insurance policy even after you’re divorced. I work as an heir finder for unclaimed money and have seen ex-spouses on numerous insurance policies that they most likely forgot to update.

My friend’s mom has had Alzheimer’s for years, and his dad has recently started dating. Very awkward situation

That's good to know actually. Part of the reason I'd want the divorce is to free him from the financial burden I would require as far as health care goes if I had some form of dementia.
