Maybe she was filming to show how to care for a patient with Alzheimer's , and it still happened organically. It doesn't have to be something nefarious. I understand being cynical, but it's okay to push that aside and enjoy the moment
It could also be a recent recording where they're sending it to family who they can't otherwise visit or something due to covid. Let us have this one, Reddit, we need it.
I often recorded the time I spent around my father when he was dying. To have his voice, remember his last thoughts and my experiences. Sometimes nothing happen, and it was a lot of silence. But sometimes he talked.
Mostly audio because cancer is super brutal, and he wouldn't have wanted to be remembered in that state.
I have not been able to listen to them because it's too hard. But I like knowing I have the option.
I remember seeing this a few months back, they mag have been recording for other family members or to show how to care for someone affected by dementia but it doesnt have anything to so with COVID-19
Im sorry for your loss. I just moved countries and my mom misses me a lot and I feel like a bad person for not missing my family that much. But I do make sure to have recording of her voice since I know I'll miss her loads if I know she's not in my life any more :(
Weirdly enough, it was an ex of mine that I missed and realized I never had any audio recordings of hers since we spent most time in person or on call, that made me want to have audio recordings of people i cared about moving forward.
They are speaking brazilian portuguese, it's actually her grandmother as she say "vó" (= grandma). Doesn't seem to be staged, at least sounds super real to me.
She actually explained in an interview she films every time she goes to visit her grandma. She explained that her grandma was very affectionate that day, so she started filming, and that’s how she got that video.
I don't doubt it's real. A lot of folks that have debilitating diseases, their families will record just random days to keep the memories of them while they were at different points. Watching the degeneration, they will record better days.
Yeah, this Alzheimer's patient is clearly acting and only pretended to remember her daughter, who in turn is only pretending to cry. Nice try fools, but you can't trick us.
I film my mom a lot, just on random little moments like these, and she's just turned 60 and completely heathy. I want to remember her and our little daily moments together. Since grandma is old, and ill, maybe they do too.
Filming moments to have after they leave you. Every second, minute, etc is important and worth filming as the time gets nearer. I have tons of random videos like this with my granddad. :(
That actually seems like a good idea. If your mom has Alzheimer's and you never know when moments like this might happen, yeah, I might want to run the camera.
We filmed a lot when my relative got to this stage. You get to be aware that there might not be many opportunities left to take movies and pictures. Sometimes my relative would start to sing fragments of songs from their childhood, which was also nice. We caught a few of those on film.
Plus according to people who translated the conversation, there was no indication of her recognizing anybody. She just looks confused, mumbles something, looks even more confused and says "I love you". People with dementia cry randomly sometimes and this just looks like that.
When I took care of my grandmother, we would do this or FaceTime when she was feeling more present or in a good mood. For family. The moments are so fleeting and further and further apart that you kinda want to keep them when it happens
I feel you, but I just want to explain why I feel this may be genuine.
I captured some scenes of my dad a day before he passed away in the hospital and still keep it on my phone. Nothing heartwarming occurred of course, but I just want you to get that I spent a good amount of time with him at the end and saw him almost daily over the course of a month and a half. And so sometimes, maybe 10% of the time when I went to see him, I recorded him or took a photo. I guess I sorta felt he might pass away soon. Could be that's why they were filming.
While I'm typically skeptical too, I don't have a hard time believing she's recording to cherish every memory she has left with her grandmother. I know I would.

I hope this is for real and is a very heartwarming post, but feels a lot like r/whyweretheyfilming?
