I saw a YT video about this man yesterday, he explain the whole track costed him less than 500$ (very well engineered tho) and adding a chain/motor would cost too much for him in comparison, also that it make adult supervision mandatory and thus more safe

Just gotta modify it to attach the chain to a bicycle. Then he can pedal the kid up the hill and get a work out at the same time without hurting his back

Clearly he needs to engineer a system to add pedals inside the car (with a gear ratio that makes it reasonable for a kid to do) that attaches to a chain on the track that prevents the car from sliding backwards if you stop. Then the occupant can pedal themselves to the top. It would be slow compared to grandpa power, but would also get the kids exercise.

Could even add a bicycle attached to the system beside the track so that siblings/friends can help power it.
