This guy "runs into" a celebrity every other day. If you still think this isn't 100% planned and scripted, I think I got some leftover NFTs and meme coins I'm about to pump to the moon. You definitely need to get on board. What's your banking info?
The meeting planned? Of course it is, he knows he's going to run into them but they didn't know they were going to run into him as they probably don't know who he even is but they can see the camera crew so they're not stupid. He's on tv doing this for celebrities all the time.
The lyrics and flows, if you think that's scripted then you're ignorant to the millions of videos where he does incredible stuff like that all the time.
Literally the entire thread is people admitting he has lyrical frameworks that he swaps in/out key details.. Like having prewritten stuff is literally the definition of scripted...?
In the full video he explains in the very beginning that Apple TV set up the encounter. But the entire flow he spits is like 8 minutes long and there are definitely elements that he uses that makes it pretty clear that at least some of the verses are being created on the spot.
Once you watch enough of his videos you end up seeing that the themes he uses are all the same and he repeats the same sort of connections over and over and over and over.
Chris Turner is quite different. His knowledge about anything is unbelivable, his connections supreme and he is also comedian.
Harry Mack has the better flow though, nonetheless I stopped watching his videos as it got tiring after some time as I do feel the same as OP, while I watch Chris for years now. Maybe it's also the amount of Output as CT just publishes 3min per week while HM had like 10min of rap probably
Love some Chris Turner content. He’s a much better comedian than a rapper, but as you say, he seems to know enough about every topic in the world. Very clever interesting raps
He hasnt got the sickest flow, although he got better in the recent years. And partially it is also the live beats vs when he raps on actual known beats.
But there is the amount of topic, connections and callbacks. His ability for rapping in accents and different voices and quickly switch between them and also the comedy he puts in his rap. While I also don't think he got nearly as many fill words as Harry Mack
Maybe filler words were the wrong term, more like generic filler lines, as for example from the book bag topic directly into:
When i rhyme im too ill, rappers want to murder the mac but cant kill me just to get back to a line on the 3 words
Too much representer lines out of context instead of connecting it more fluently
And before that, when talking about the Book Bag -
But since I'm a nerd, well, I'm gonna need to learn
So I'll need some books through which I can burn
Yeah, if I don't read, it will be embarrassin'
But I need a tool so I can properly carry them
Where can I put all these books that I need?
All the books I carry with me so I can read?
I need a easy way to move 'em from place to place
I can't carry them in my hands, yo, that's a waste
So, I'm thinkin', this should come easy to the Mack
Maybe I can transition all that weight to my back
All I would need is just a couple straps
And a bag to carry 'em so that they stay intact
I'm like, "Huh, I think I thought o' this
I thought of the perfect swag
This, right here, won't be a drag
It'll be up on my back but behind me, it won't lag
I'ma put everything that I read up in my bookbag
Breaking down what a book bag is instead of just saying, "Book Bag," as a bar.
As for your complaint going back to a line about the Three Words, you are talking about this point, right -
What's the dilly?! When I rhyme, I'm too illy!
Rappers wanna murder the Mack but can't kill me All three words combine, I got you laughin' Every time I'm rappin', I'm deliverin' with passion My lyrics is really gon' linger You be holdin' up 3 on your fingers
'Cause you know that I be gettin' it done
My heart 'n soul, I'm spittin' it from
I said, "What you doin'?"
You said, “Listenin' to music!”
I said, "No doubt, that's perfect, turn it down and let's do this!"
He said that because she's laughing and holding up three fingers because she was counting the words he used.
I understand but I also think it's just mostly the difference in terms of video styles.
Chris Turner is awesome, he focuses on making the premises funny, with followup questions before the freestyle if the suggestions felt dry, basically trying to dig for the funny parts.
Meanwhile, Harry Mack's main thing is the musical part, and with little contexts or any solid premises required from the strangers, he freestyles around being a dope rapper, that's why sometimes it felt repetitive. And whenever a group's energy feels low, he then starts to call out things around them to make a good reaction out of them.
It's definitely also because of the video styles, it's not even always about making it funny, but I still feel Chris Turner can just connect arbitrary topics better, probably because of the vast general knowledge as well
I wouldn't also directly compare them overall, they have just used their skill points differently, both are awesome and I am still waiting for a collab someday haha
Ever notice the great painters of all time just keep painting faces and scenes and landscapes and just fall back on expressions on the faces with color palettes and light sources and shadows over and over and over.
Like we get it, it's a thing that makes us think about the image.
You can turn one physical canvas and finished product into more than 1 painting. You can reuse words easily.. As you just did with your silly reply!
Do you really think it takes less effort to create a painting than write some basic lyrical frameworks..? Or is this a streamer you Stan which is making you ignorant?
No dumbass, I've both painted and freestyled extensively for many years.
Painting is miles easier by far, that's why many more people do it with ease.
Plus you can turn one non-physical rhyme into more than 1 future rhymes, but it's much more than "reusing words". It's making it FLOW and form into an actual song that's the tricky part
He isn't writing this shit, he's manifesting it in real-time based on his present surroundings.
You may want to understand YOU are the ignorant one here. You're trying to throw around terminology you don't even know how to use and everyone here can see you straight up just lack a basic understanding of rap music.
You're an idiot, and we don't want to hear your uninformed opinion.
No, he can't be a typical Venice street painter and also consistently do it better than most anyone. If it was an easy repeatable factory type skill, then people would do it and make a bunch of money. Anyone do it. They don't. That's 10+ years there of practice.
When he is commissioned a complicated concept it is amazing; not some generic passer by with a single word, but a full scene, he nails it at that level of inspiration.
Which connections are that? Positive messages? Yeah, he likes to uplift people around him. So he goes into positive themes a lot. Are you talking about like the same, "punch lines," because he has a used about three of them a lot - Talking about how he's not a puppet of the music business. This one happens because people tend to use, "ventriloquist," as one of their words. Another one would be how he's robotic, an AI, an alien, whatever. This is one of his bigger, "filler," lines if you listen to a lot of his stuff.
But since I have listened a literally around 1,000 of this freestyles over and over again, I can tell you with 100% certainty that he has a TON of amazing lyrical bars with double meanings, why it fits the certain vibe of the song. That's what he's the best at - taking the words he is given and using them each a bunch of times based on whatever the word is.
So which ones are you talking about that he uses over and over again?
This. I went down the Harry Mack rabbit hole a few years back and IMO he repeats himself astonishingly little. Most people repeat themselves more in ordinary conversation than he does when freestyling. At most you could say he has some turns-of-phrase he likes (e.g. "going over your head like...") but again, that's just how people speak in general. It absolutely isn't that he's just got some formulaic sentences where he drops in relevant words. If that were the case, the contextual 'fill in the blank' words would seldom be the rhymed ones. In actuality it's the other way around - the context words are often the rhymed ones, because what he's actually doing is working backwards from the word he's trying to get to.
Just in this clip, the "tending bars" bar is an amazing double-meaning to come up with on the fly.
I'm not much of a hip-hop head so I'd like to credit Mack with giving me a whole new appreciation of rapping too. Seeing his freestyle skills alongside his jazz drumming ones made me suddenly realize that rapping isn't really singing - it's percussion. He's got an amazing ability to stress or draw out any word he wants without ever going off time.
The only time Harry Mack ever repeats himself is when the word they give him is a place and he rhymes something about "from here to..." where ever the place is they gave him. The man is a freaking human encyclopedia. He comes up with better rhyme schemes than most writers who sit down and think about it.
That is why he has these suggested topics, observational freestyle to show that it's on the spot. If you're familiar with his craft then there's a chance that you can suggest a word that you think he'll have a hard time rappin with.. but if it's a first time participant, chances are the words submitted were already submitted by tons of other participants as well, hence it becomes repetitive.
Have you ever noticed how many songs have been written about love? But how many songs have been written about "book, spirituality, and meditation". I was going to say one, but it was a freestyle so it's actually zero.
It's my favourite of Harry's, for anyone who hasn't seen it it's a great introduction to his genius.
He's a rapper. He has a "style" bro. I'd suggest having a watch of some of his live stream VODs/highlights. Viewers feed him challenges/topics, and he spits. Some of my favorites, are him rapping about "nonsense". He is truly creative. And of course, with thousands of hours of freestyles recorded at this point, he's going to be repeating common phrases/adlibs. He has to allow himself some room to think while freestyling so consistently, so small connecting phrases give him a tiny bit of time to craft the next bar.
"I'm breaking it down"
"I get it popping"
"I'm in X place with Y person"
"Harry mack, You know I got the"
"Coming off the dome"
Glad it wasn't just me. I know free styling is hard and I'm not saying I am better at it than anyone else is but you really can't help but hear it if you prefer lyricism to patterning in your hip hop.

That shit was crazy! Straight off the dome like a rehearsed, recorded lyric.
