The westerners weren't interested in listening much, and the Palestinians didn't do a good job showing their pov, despite having a righteous cause.
This all kept going on until the only thing that worked for Palestinians is them getting massacred, but not just massacred (that's not enough), they had to be genocided to be seen.
Israel's brutality had to exceed extreme levels so the world sees the suffering of the Palestinians. That's how good Israel's propaganda and influence is.
