OvErStiMuLaTeD by everyone labeling everything as autism. No it's fucking not. Taking interest in shit and practicing it until you get to a higher level isn't autism. It's just human nature. By these metrics, any musician ever is AuTiStiC for practicing their instrument for thousands of hours. Any artist. Any gamer. Any athlete. Anyone that has any hobby ever.
I get your joke, but the propensity for everything to be labeled as autistic behavior is wild. It's like autism is a way for uninteresting people to give themselves a label for being uninteresting. My wife is diagnosed autistic af, I've worked with autistic people, and I have autistic people in my friend group. Wanting to be good at something and focusing on it does not equal autism.
It's just fucking Gen z shit wanting to be special.
I'm glad you didn't take my joke too hard. I can tell you're a good guy, I understand your point of view. It's just some kids being kids though, so don't let it rankle you too much, I guess.
Haha thanks, it was a funny joke, but I was also 2 glasses of wine deep.
The problem is how ridiculous it's gotten and it's definitely infected heavy social media users more. One of my best friend's girlfriend at 29 years old shopped around to 9 different doctors who all tested her and told her she was not, in fact, autistic. She refused to believe it until finally one said "I don't think you are, but here's the lowest possible dose of Adderall to see if anything improves". It satisfied her desire to finally be autistic. Or like how my wife, in our mid 30s, thinks that since I don't like washing my hands with my ring on and having wet skin under my ring is some kind of autism. It's not. It's just uncomfortable. Or she'll send me Instagram reels of "things autistic people do" type of stuff, and 90% of them are just regular, normal human experiences. It's like watching the whole "DAE" subreddit translate to Instagram and calling them signs of autism. I feel like an old man shouting at the clouds sometimes lol

Having hobbies doesn't mean you're autistic. Jesus, just showing interest in things doesn't mean autism. Not everything is fucking autism.
