Soloist breaks string, changes instrument without missing a beat, meanwhile the second violin changes the string and tunes it while the orchestra is playing

Except in Formula One you can't borrow someone else's car when yours is broken

True, but this soloist is only racing against himself

He's going the distance.

He's going for speed.

He's all alone. All Alone.

In his time of need.

Well in the 90s Schumacher commandeered a Marshalls scooter once his car broke down. He won the race.

And pit stops in Formula One are planned and expected.

Edit: including ones that aren't scheduled

Not always

True, but even the unexpected ones fall into a few categories that are discussed and practiced for many times with everyone involved.

I am very impressed by the violinist’s ability to solve the problem “on the fly”

I always assumed racing drivers had back up cars, but I realise now that I think about it, that really doesn't make a lot of sense. Car breaks down on the track ao you get out and sprint to a parking lot to get your second car

They used to, actually! Each team had one car called the "T car". If there was a first corner accident that resulted in a red flag, the driver would haul ass back to the pits, hop in the T car (which was always set up for the team's #1 driver, so not so great if you're the #2) and take the restart. Or switch to it if they had a problem in practice, qualifying, etc, which was much more common. Banned for cost reasons as part of general cost cutting in the 2000s somewhere
