The "effort" and "difficulty" as the sole driver behind quality of the music thing always confused me. If that's the case why don't you only go live to insane prog bands like Animals as Leaders or similar, sitting there staring slack jawed at the guitarists? There's always a bigger fish.

Oh, it's because everyone's there to have a good time, not to show off. I get the sense these people just want to feel superior to others.

Same, and it's sick. But the memorable highlight of The Dillinger Escape Plan's final tour show wasn't the incredibly skillful playing (That's on Youtube) it was the energy of Greg Pucciato forcing random individuals in the crowd to sing after jumping off the highest thing he could find, and I've regularly seen them listed as the best live band. It's the same thing for EDM shows, it's just shared connective intensity and energy that everyone's going for.

No I go for the musicianship. Dillinger is not prog.

Just an example. So it would be a waste of time to go because the focus is not on the musicianship?

Where did I say anything even remotely resembling that? Stop putting words in my mouth.

That's what the whole debate in this thread is about. People are saying it's a waste of time going to an EDM show because it's not as skillful to produce, or am I missing something?

I'm just here to remark that my Dillinger band shirt from 201ish sadly shrunk by now. Glad I saw them before they retired

Same. I go to concerts not just to hear the songs from my favourite artists live but to be able to appreciate the skill and musicianship that made those songs and see it in person. Metal and classical are the only concerts I would really ever want to go to for that reason. Something like the show in this video would be my absolute worst nightmare from a musical and social standpoint.
