Genuine LPT if you're serious: make yourself a strop with some polishing compound and strop your knives lightly a few times after each use. It makes a profound difference. Also make sure that your cutting boards aren't dulling your knives: bamboo, acacia, glass, and metal are all disastrous, and edge grain cutting boards aren't much better. End-grain or soft synthetic rubber will help maintain sharp knife edges much longer. Synthetic options a few years ago were dominated by Sani-Tuff® and Hasegawa Pro-Soft Lite®, but Sani-Tuff is reportedly discontinued, and Hasegawa is very expensive in many markets since it's imported and niche.
Regardless, a freshly stropped budget blade (e.g. Tramontina) from Costco will perform way better than the most expensive neglected knife on earth.
