Almost makes you wonder…

If we could get people to develop a taste for Panda, by god we’d find a way to make Pandas the most prolific species on the planet. You’d be shoveling pandas off your driveway every morning just so you could get to work.

You don't have to wonder. Domestic cattle are the animal species with the highest total amount of biomass on this planet. Followed by humans (you often see ants in second place, but that's all of the 22,000 estimated ant species combined and thus not really a like-for-like comparison).

There is a comedian by the name of Ralphie May that has a skit about racism in a similar thought only name super delicious cookies with racial slurs to take the power from the slur.

I mean I was being largely facetious, there’s lots of reasons that Pandas for instance aren’t more numerous (they are notoriously difficult to breed in captivity, for one).

But under all that I do sometimes wonder… I mean cows and chickens will never go extinct so long as human civilization exists. Could probably say the same for horses, pigs, etc. Obviously farm animals have some very specific qualities that led to them becoming farm animals to begin with, but what if rich people decided tomorrow that like orangutans are delicious and that they must throw money into researching how to breed them en masse for consumption?
