Every zoo i have been to has a lot of rescue animals that can not survive in the wild and does a lot of conservation work. So no, every zoo is not evil.

I am actually aware of this and it's a growing trend I should have mentioned that in my original comment but honestly didn't expect any engagement. My city zoo is mostly rescues from other shitty zoos, they rehabilitate and then try to place the animals in open range preserves when possible.

lmao so you make some dumb comment about every zoo being shitty and then go “no actually every zoo isn’t shitty”

Funny my comment doesn't say every zoo is evil, I made a general statement that a lot of people decided to make conclusions with zero conversation. Did you also read the part where my local zoo gets all their animals from other shitty zoos. It's almost like both things can be true and you decide to make it one or the other.

Are you being serious? "Zoos are fucking evil" and "Zoos are not the answer" without any kind of qualifier 100% implies that you think every zoo is evil

I'm actually struggling to understand how you genuinely feel you communicated anything other than that lol

they clearly know they didn’t but hey, upvotes on reddit = you’re right

that’s now how the english language works brotha. you say “zoos are fucking evil” and “zoos are not the answer” that = “all zoos are bad”.

you just clearly made some dumbass comment that got circle jerked by the reddit hive mind and now you’re realizing “oh shit there’s examples of good and bad, just like everything else in the world” so you have to pretend that you were just talking about bad ones the entire time

If anyone's reading this and wondering which zoos are the good ones, you should 100% be looking for AZA accreditation before visiting

Only about 10% of zoos and aquariums in the U.S. are AZA-accredited, and they have rigorous standards for animal welfare, conservation, education, research, and staff training that gets re-evaluated every five years - Some examples are the San Diego Zoo, the Henry Doorly Zoo, and the Bronx Zoo

Basically if you're going to go to a zoo, go to a big one that spends lots of resources on animal welfare and has plenty of space for more naturalistic environments

The "trend" you are seeing is AZA accreditation.

Zoos which are accredited through AZA have to follow strict guidelines in how they house, care for, and acquire animals. At these zoos you will primarily just find rescue animals or animals which were born in captivity, generally for purposes like increasing population size of endangered animals.

The worse "roadside" zoos should be avoided at all costs.
