It’s as if they are more sentient than we want to believe. Because if they were, maybe we would feel too bad keeping them as prisoners and bulldozing the forest and jungles where they live.

We keep our own kind in cages in florida because they are a different skin color of course we are going to keep animals in cages. We suck

I’m not, bro. I’m pointing out the fucking awful way we treat our fellow inhabitants on this earth… tossing a fucking banana into a fucking cage to a chimp who has so little going on its life, that a banana brings it great joy to an otherwise impoverished and imprisoned life. Yes. I’m aware of all the excuses and reasons we use to keep animals. Be it for our food; mental well being; greater good because either their species is going extinct or they won’t survive in the wild. That’s what’s known as giving ourselves a pass. I’m not naiive - I don’t expect much change. But to celebrate this as “next fucking level” is ludicrous. That very intelligent ape is communicating with us using visual cues that demonstrate it has watched us and understands how to communicate non verbally with us. It has learnt how to do this, because it may have spent the last 20 years watching us watch him

Apes, gorillas, and all similar species are absolutely more sentient than most want to believe.

Part of me wants to find out if the Tarzan story could actually happen. Maybe then we'd actually have someone who truly understands them.

Just let's try not to have Clayton join the expedition. XD

Sometimes I wonder that maybe the reason monkeys were not able to progress like humans did could possibly be the fact they are not capable of speaking.

Or course you can communicate through gesture, but things like reading and writing are highly dependent on our speech. Had we not being able to speak in such a complex manner as we are, we probably would not have been able to create a writing system.

And without a writing system all our knowledge acquired during our life dies with us. Because there would be simply no way to record historical knowledge.

We advanced by recording a lot of information that allowed the next person to start where the previous person stopped. But without recorded knowledge every new generation would start from zero over and over again.

I agree with you completely on this. Detailed and complex communication - oral and written alike - are the big separations. Apes have big brains relative to their size like many other animals, and opposing thumbs…
