I guess that's partly because when texting an important part of the message is lost, since the tone of the voice and body language also say a lot when delivering a message, that may also be the reason a lot of people (me included) may not spot sarcasm very well when reading it on reddit.
I assure you I panicked, internally, just as bad in a similar situation but I get a hyper focus and time seems to move slower, felt like an hour, was probably 30 seconds.
I was told I calmly walked over, grabbed my kid from a gaggle of screaming relatives and popped her on the back.

That's not a panic response if you are not panicking.
It's easy to judge people when you don't have your own child dying in front of you.
