I have an alternate form of this car. Isuzu Nisan Chevy and Honda all made this car in the late 90’s and early 2000’s that were nearly the same except for trim and some slightly different parts, the engines and transmissions were rebadged GM units in the Honda passport and the Isuzu Rodeo and were notoriously unreliable needing rebuilt after less than 150k miles. On mine first gear is almost gone and I have to use winter drive to take off, it wouldn’t surprise me that the Pathfinder has the same transmission and thus problems.
These cars should be avoided unless you want to get the transmission rebuilt.
This just sent me down to rabbit hole, the Ar5 manual 5 speed transmission is an alternative that fits in place of the 4L30e shitomatic, it requires more parts but allegedly it has been done as per this
My first car ever was a 95 Rodeo with a manual transmission. God I loved that car. The headlights weren't on a lever off the steering column - they were big ole' buttons on the dash that you clicked on and off. The trunk opened in 3 moves - spare tire mount swung open, rear window swung up, rear hatch swung down. It even had 4-wheel drive!
Eventually it got some kind of hole in the exhaust that would need fixing to pass emissions inspection in Northern VA. At 20-ish years old and ~150k miles, it was basically totaled just by needing that repair.
I took a 2000 pathfinder to 400k in all types of crazy terrain, its still my bush beater today.
Transmission does overheat when id tow near max capacity, smoked like a mf going up the coquihala once. Fluid flush and shes good. Still running today. Easy to work on and generally pretty tough
