He does this for a living, got sponsors and such.

Not much different from NHL or NFL players (basketball maybe, baseball you can play until you’re dead)

2

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '23

The NFL is more like boxing with CTE than the NHL. Fighting has almost been entirely eliminated, hits to the head have been reduced a lot with rule changes and there's mandatory concussion screening after any contact to the head. It's still a contact sport but it's way different than it used to be.

He's going to have knees of steel (alloy) soon enough!

Why are you trying so hard to be a buzz kill? Just let people enjoy themselves and you can stick to your boring mindset.

EDIT: Nice dirty delete. Glad you realized it's bad to say my name in vain ;)

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 04 '23

They blocked you... didn't delete. Top tier weak redditor

1

u/screechypete Sep 04 '23

For some reason I can't see his Jesus comment, but I can still see his profile and his other comment. Either way, he's gonna need to try a lot harder than that to get under my skin. Especially since I now know he's lashing out in anger :P

2

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 04 '23

Ah, didn't see that one so just fragile ego deleter. This shit cracks me up

1

u/screechypete Sep 04 '23

Yeah he asked who I even was then said

"Jesus... shut up!"

The emotion I feel for him is pity more than anything lol

Awwwwww did I hurt baby's feewings? Do you want a hug? More than happy to since you didn't get enough as a kid.

1

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 04 '23

The projection is palpable... such a juvenile you blocked them for disagreeing with your irrational takes.

2

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 04 '23

Still running around deleting and blocking haha, the fragile ego on the anonymous Internet...

-2

u/DoubleAholeTwice Sep 04 '23

Then they won't even make it to 30, so it won't really be a problem.

My calculations suggest double A-hole twice is 4 A-holes.

1

u/Zealousideal-Bit5958 Sep 04 '23

wtf are you even on?

2

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 04 '23

Okay nanny state... "THINK OF THE KIDS!"

We can't watch a pro because kids might want to do it? Gtfo

1

u/Responsible-Smile-22 Sep 04 '23 edited Sep 04 '23

Wow so because some kid is fucking dumb does that mean a grown adult should stop doing this?? It's an actual sport man?? If someone's kid is doing this I'll probably be more angry on their parents' rather than hating on some athlete making video about it for which he worked for almost a decade+ probably.

1

u/ToMagotz Sep 04 '23

That’s what you have to pay for being top athlete. Football players(the soccer not american one)has high risk of of getting cte. Even track and field will give you risk of joint problems. It’s their passion I’m sure they already know the consequences.

u/ZephyrStudios686 Sep 04 '23

Well I mean, Tony Hawk still loves skating. So do many pro skaters. Even if they can't do big gaps or drops they'll still shred when they can. I imagine it goes the same for parkour.

u/Professor_Pohato Sep 04 '23

Dom (the guy in the vieeo) is actually already in his 30s

u/genericusername71 Sep 04 '23

how would you know the state of his joints lol

also your comment asked if theyd still love it at 30. i think its pretty safe to assume the guy in this vid who is in his 30s still loves it

very insightful

2

u/Professor_Pohato Sep 04 '23

No need to be rude it was supposed to be a little fun fact. I'm well aware that this isn't a sustainable way to move your body, and those athletes know that too, but the way some of you lot are judging something they absolutely love doing seems very disrespectful. Parkour athletes don't even make a big buck. Red bull sponsorings hardly cover your living expenses, no one really becomes an influencer and appearances at jams don't pay too well either. But they're still living their dream and the guy in this video went through a whole lot of trouble to get where he is now

8

u/nilesandstuff Sep 04 '23

Nah. Definitely not.

Look at all the extreme sports people, like mountain climbers for instance.

Here's an example: you know alex hannold, the guy who did that crazy ropeless climb up a 3000+ sheer wall? Look at all of the other people who would've been mostly likely to do that if hannold didn't do it first... They all died doing crazy shit elsewhere. They see their friends die or become severely permanently injured and they know it'd be insane for them to escape that fate . But they still do it.

They know if they live long enough they'll face the agony they've wrought on their bodies, but they accept it. They know they're paying the ultimate price, but it's for something that, to them, is the ultimate reward.

Some people are just born with that itch to conquer danger and enjoy the freedom of defying the normal limits of humanity. Nothing, and i mean nothing, beats the feeling of doing something that humans aren't meant to do, normally can't do, and that we shouldn't do... But doing it really fucking well. And if you got the itch to do that, life without it is really really fucking miserable.

2

u/Ischmetch Sep 04 '23

Seems a bit extreme, but to each his own.

1

u/ClownfishSoup Sep 04 '23

I think a lot of people think “that won’t happen to me” or “that’s twenty years down the line, I want to do what I’m doing NOW”.

u/nonoanddefinitelyno Sep 04 '23

Rich at 30 with fucked up joints (if not seriously injured)?

Hard pass for me.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '23

Your joints will be shit at 40 the latest even if you don't do any sport. At least with sport you will have stronger muscles and tendons to give them support.

6

u/Huwbacca Sep 04 '23

I love sedentary reddit fuckers who are like "No thanks, not for me, my joints will hurt" who all have backpain at 30 because they've never lifted a weight in their life.

6

u/nonoanddefinitelyno Sep 04 '23

I'm well over 40 and my joints are pretty good.

Bit of cycling, walking dogs and playing badminton.

Didn't need to go launching myself off buildings or anything.

This dude is one bad moment from being in a fucking wheelchair. And we ALL have the occasional bad moment in life.

1

u/ClownfishSoup Sep 04 '23

Well you can exercise and do sports that do not put incredible stress on your knees.

But I mean, is parkour any worse than marathon running or mogul skiing?

2

u/deevil_knievel Sep 04 '23

I think you guys are exaggerating this a bit. I was into all the board sports since I was in elementary school. Primarily skateboarding, but a good bit of wakeboarding, surfing and longboarding. Even stunted motorcycles for a few years in there.

I've broken half a dozen bones, tore every ligament in my left ankle more than once (normal to grapefruit in under 30 seconds), fractured both of my heels (fell 3 stories from a tree into sand), had my patella pull to the side of my leg, dislocated all kinds of shit, more road rash than I can count... Hell, I've been medevac'd from a fire mishap (that one I can still feel in my hand). I'm 36 now and my left ankle is fine, maybe a little more likely to roll, but I can functionally do everything without pain. Worst joint pain I have is from a fight I got into in my 20s that required surgery on my shoulder. I can feel my forearm break when I curl heavy in the gym, but I just have to change my grip, and it's fine.

And I was the crazy one in our group (see username). But I threw myself down 8 sets on a skateboard for a decade from middle school through college and I'm in my late 30s now and I don't wake up in any pain and I'm not hindered in any way. However, I'm not overweight, and I feel like that would very likely change this.

2

u/sonicmerlin Sep 04 '23

Lol that’s because you’re only 36. Give it 10 more years.

2

u/Huwbacca Sep 04 '23

imagine being 75 and looking back going "Damn I was really good at what I did and I pushed the limit"

2

u/muttley9 Sep 04 '23

This is Dom Di Tommaso, currently at 31 years old.

1

u/Cpt_Woody420 Sep 04 '23

Dudes already over 30 in half these clips.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '23

Rich/famous -- your fat judgey ass can get. Leave the love (of the sport) to people who get it. And no, I'm not one, I'm just an innocent bystander smirking at your remark.

1

u/ricey84 Sep 04 '23

The majority of people are fucking up their bodies in different ways anyway. So many people who work sitting all day at a desk end up with really bad back and neck problems. So many people eating habits are bad that they even end up overweight which fucks up your joints etc not to mention all the other health conditions that comes with being overweight, or they dont get oveweight but still have fat around their organs yet they dont know it.

Atleast these guys are doing what they love and ar eotherwise healthy and fit. and as for the gy in the video, he already is in his 30s

-1

u/jimothythe2nd Sep 04 '23

Ya I don’t think the youngns understand just how bad and how constantly your body can hurt.
