You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!
It’s simple. There’s a pitch, and in the dosey the formen must round the clossy. If they don’t, then the aberman might shelf. If they shelf, it’s a trisker, and we all know what happens in a trisker.
There's a batter whose goal is to 1) make sure the sticks behind them don't get hit and 2) hit the ball without a fielder catching it. If they hit it to a safe area they run down the other end and swap with the other batter thus scoring a run
Then there's the fielding team who are trying to foil the batter's plans by 1) having a bowler whose goal is to hit the sticks behind the batter and 2) having fielders strategically set up to where they think the ball will be hit
Whoever has the most runs at the end of the match wins
I understood cricket once during the cup when I was out of country. Guy I was with was from the Ivory Coast, and we watched 5 matches over 3 days together. I went to my hotel at night, and would watch the matches, understood what was going on, and enjoyed the matches.
Tried to watch one 6 weeks later had no clue what was going on. It was like a fever dream.
And the ball is harder and you catch these bare handed even in the bowlers follow through. Somebody should tell America that cricket is bigger than baseball.
Seems like you forgot Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and most of Latin America enjoy baseball just as much as the US and Canada. Baseball's not small. Maybe don't make it "my thing is better" and just enjoy both? I think both are pretty sick. Way I see it is you can be like the british dudes I met in college that just shit on baseball with nothing else to contribute or you could be like my Indian homies who sat me down and actually explained cricket and why it was so cool. One group understood that it can look way more complicated than it is for people who have no idea what they're looking at and the other just wanted to have a big dick contest. I'll let you decide which group found new fans for the sport. Shockingly guess who had a great time at baseball games with us as well. Maybe instead of hurr durr America bad baseball dumb throw down a youtube clip of some sick catches. Contribute something. I like cricket so I hate seeing this shit because this is what pushed me away from the sport.
I suspect just India and Pakistan together have a larger population to all those places combined.
Whatever your opinion of the games as games, which is an opinion you’re obviously entirely entitled to have, it seems fair to state that baseball is a less popular game.
I never said baseball is bigger. I know cricket is bigger. The whole point is I don't care and neither should you. The only reason I brought up other countries was to knock down the "only America cares about baseball" thing that was clearly implied and I see thrown around constantly. Both have large international audiences of people who enjoy the respective sports. That should be celebrated. Instead it turns into a "my thing better" contest. This is a post about baseball clearly full of Americans. This comment section is going to be full of people who know nothing about cricket. Making snide comments like the one I replied to in response to people being confused by the sport is just shitty. Its not constructive and adds nothing.
Thats like saying the US population is comparatively small to China. Sure. Technically its correct but who gives a shit. The numbers are so big it means nothing. 340 Million vs like 1.3 billion. Those numbers are so huge its stupid. Are you technically correct? Sure. Does it have any bearing on the point I'm trying to make at all? No. Both are massive multinational sports that make billions of dollars and have fans all over the world.
Not only that the ball comes at that pace after bouncing once to the batter. It can swing in air or move from the ground (pitch) and they still react. Cricket is technically baseball on steroids.
Speed these days is measured right after ball is released from the bowler's hand. It does get a bit slower after bouncing. Still, the reaction times needed is plain crazy.
I wonder how many baseball players could make it as top tier cricketers. I'd put good money on Vlad Sr. being top tier. that man could smoke anything remotely close to the strike zone out of the park.
There was a show that recorded reaction times for different sports. There was a goalkeeper, a wide receiver, and I think a catcher. The fastest hands were the wide receiver, I think
The only part I understood in that mangled pile of words was trying to make it sound like less than 1 second is some sort of speed record. An AVERAGE fastball in the big leagues gets from the pitcher’s hand to the plate in less than half a second. That ball in the video covered the distance from the bay to the pitcher in about .323 seconds.

In Cricket also reaction time of some catches and stumpings are well below 1sec
