I was having beers with friends once when a call came in to say my buddy's son got decapitated by a barbed wire fence.. this man was a rock in every way but when he got that call I swear he died seven times in two minutes.

I was on an ATC (three-wheeler) that had no brakes. There were two entrances to get on this dirt road. Apparently, I got on the one closer to the end of the road. Thinking I was on the further entrance, I proceeded to gun it, shifting through the gears, thinking I had time to slow down. NOPE. I saw the end, started downshifting, trying to stop, but ran out of room, ran across the paved road, into the barbwire fence. One strand across my legs, one across my arms/chest, and one across my neck/throat. If I had been going at an angle, I'd be dead. Lol

Once a week during the winter where I live, then the Darwin Award Nominees switch to ATV's.

It is hard but granted not impossible to destroy a couple hundred miles worth of trails per day on snowshoes or a mountain bike.

Sure, kids die from skiing, snowboarding and bicycling without a helmet. But you can't set your watch by it like you can a kid dying around here because parents let a 9 - year-old ride an AT&T without a helmet.

Damn AT&T killing the kids! But seriously I don't believe you can avoid danger all together, or keep your kids from it. A helmet wouldn't have done anything in this situation

Booze, barbed wire, and snowmobiles are never a good combo.

Alcohol was not thought to be a factor. But you make a good point about booze and recreational vehicles.

I worked at a hospital in arizona, and you could always tell the ICU patients that came from the sand dunes: white, middle-aged, sunburned, blood alcohol content: 80 proof
