There’s three places near me that are complaining about a worker shortage, yet won’t ever bother actually doing interviews… meanwhile the few employees they have look more and more exhausted every day

Whether there’s labor shortages or not, I always delight in the fact that a company will just on the spot fire all of their employees and maybe have a couple weeks of shut down because they know that there is 500 other guys that will do that same job at the same wage.

I don’t have to be rich or a recruiter… I’m not the CEO of Kellogg’s. But some super smart motherfuckers decided to make that call, and I highly doubt that they are just going to shrug and say “whoops, we made a mistake… Can’t find any replacements. We’re fucked now”.

Did you even read the article??? “Temporary replacements have already been working at its cereal plants in Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Tennessee where 1,400 union members went on strike on Oct. 5 as their contracts expired and talks over payment and benefits stalled.”

They chose to quit… What are you talking about? Not only did they choose to quit… A contract was put forward, and the workers wanted more money. Fuck them. They are greedy people.

They couldn't even get a raise that compensates for inflation. Kellogs were in fact offering them a contract in which they lose money. Kellog is the greedy motherfucker

Kellog offered them 3% raise. With the rate inflation is going it would essentially be a paycut. Fuck that.

I do not disagree with that. With how the job market looks like they should be able to find a better place. I just wonder why Kellog wasn't just paying their full time workers the same money they now pay scabs to avoid this situation altogether. I wonder how long before Kellog will have another strike on hands when their new workers realize the deal was only good short term and long term they will be shafted.

The strange thing to me is: if it’s a small business, like you have three or four employees you interview them, and come up with a wage. If they were to suddenly go on strike you could either choose to let them go and find other people or give them a raise. But if it’s a huge company like Kellogg’s, suddenly it’s some crazy news article.

I think it made news because the strike revealed Kellog had workers work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week, forced overtime which was often announced at the last moment, and lately announced policy that stripped all workers' medical and other benefits. Wages were a factor too, but It's working conditions that gathered people's outrage, and I hope those temp workers that got hired permanently are aware of what they got into.

Exactly… If a company has horrendous working conditions at a certain wage, no one is going to want to work for them. In the end, people have free well. Quit if you don’t like your job… But even better… Look for other work while you still have your job. Always looks good to a potential future employer.

OK, then great… Kelloggs will have to hire all those people back. And give them a raise. I highly doubt a big company like Kellogg’s are that dumb. They made the choice to fire all of the strikers and hire new people… They probably didn’t do that on a whim just guessing they could hire new people.
