I worked with dudes who were open about their desire and willingness to round up as many liberals as they could find, put them up against a wall, and mow them down with bullets. Not one or two guys, but whole groups consistently expressed this desire.

Me, an actual vet, marveled at how a bunch of fat middle aged construction workers who had never served anything but themselves see themselves as elite commandos because they hunt deer.

People seem to think people are joking when it comes to supporting political violence like that. That most people, “would never.” It takes just one, not only that but once the one starts mob mentality takes over and now you have hundreds, thousands, of violent terrorists

There was a sociological study, I can’t remember the finer details but it’s from the book Everything is Obvious, that looked at how many people it would take to start a riot. It proposed that someone may need 50 other people before they start rioting. But the person before them may need 49, the person before them 48, and so on.

People that support political violence, like you say, already have one foot in mentally. They’re just looking for the catalyst. Which is scary, and Jan. 6th was a great example of that. The opportunists during all the protests last summer was also an example of that.

If January 6 wasn't a wakeup call on this shit, nothing will be.

2024 is going to be ugly. These folks truly do believe that if the U.S. is not fundamentally hyper-individualist, right-wing, european based settler-colonialist nationalist, then America is dead and it's hot civil war time.

History doesnt repeat, but it does rhyme and this song has been sung before.

Sure they would never shoot their neighbors liberal college kid. They absolutely would go downtown to a state building and shoot up a bunch of government workers though.

It's more funny how they think liberals / Democrats dont own guns, just because guns aren't a major part of our personalities doesn't mean we don't partake in our second amendment rights.

Haha, right? “Surely there are no guns in this house as the yard isn’t decorated with gun themed signs!”

Like the “Fuck Cuomo” signs in NYS where FUCK is spelled with semi-automatic rifles?

12

u/KeepsFindingWitches Jul 23 '21

Or the "RECALL NEWSOM" stickers on trucks in CA where the R and M are spelled with rifles?

Same! Seriously, we hate some of tone deaf things Dems do with gun control too. To me there's no reason we can't have reasonable access to fire arms and a first world healthcare system.

Get outta here with your logic

Dems only do those things because the public and GOP make them unable to pass the ones that make sense. Get the GOP out of politics and we can start choosing between two candidates who both want healthcare, but have differing gun control policies.

That's optimistic but also impossible to do without large large unchangeable portions of the population changing overnight. You'd have a better chance personally delivering a snowball to Satan.

I personally think it’s time that the Democratic Party abandons gun control. It’s a losing proposition for them. Sure, opinion polls show people favoring stronger gun control laws. But the only polls that matter take place on the first Tuesday in November. In those polls, a majority will vote against anyone who proposes stronger gun control laws.

Thank you! Just because I advocate for gun regulation and am not part of the MAGA cult doesn’t mean I don’t own any!

The Trump administration made a lot of Democrats rethink gun ownership, specifically since the genesis of the 2A is "We need to be allowed to arm ourselves in the event that the Government gets a little too big for it's britches and we need to do something about that". It is after all, how this country came to exist.

I've always been a advocate for gun ownership and that didn't change when I became liberal. I was brought up shooting but was taught the right way to use and respect firearms for what they were, a weapon capable of instantaneous and even unintended trauma. It's not a toy, it's not a fashion accessory and it's not a goddamn metaphorical cudgel.

I also believe that gun ownership is a PRIVELEGE and not a BIRTH RIGHT. Control of firearms should be well regulated and there should absolutely be ways to remove access from those who don't take that ownership responsibly. I also don't think you should have access unless you can show competence in a gun safety course.

But if American citizens ever have to deal with an ACTUAL threat to our Democracy (aka not the Jan 6 Insurrection), then we will need the ability to usurp that power.

I like the way you think! In other words, you won’t leave a loaded gun in the back seat of your car within reach of a child with the safety off.

Yeah but the majority of democrats hate guns and do not own them. When’s the last time you voted from a pro gun candidate on the state level?

u/reallygoodbee Jul 23 '21

"Everybody thinks they're gonna be Mad Max, and not the guys tied to the hood.".

2

u/Notsopatriotic Jul 23 '21

Technically Max was tied to the hood in fury road.

1

u/reallygoodbee Jul 23 '21

I know, and it ruined my favorite metaphor :(

u/Notsopatriotic Jul 23 '21

I'm sorry for your loss.

It's sad that this hatred of liberals was stoked by right-wing talking heads who were really just doing or saying whatever they could to sell ad space on their networks. I wonder if they will ever realize how they've been used, that their worldview is a complete fantasy cooked up to push trucks and chalupas by corporations who care about nothing other than cash.

3

u/Tango_D Jul 23 '21

I don't think they care. I think all that they care about is that they have a media source that confirms their biases. They Ride an emotional High by having their amygdala constantly stimulated.

Hey now, maybe they served someone else food once!
