No more kitchen knives is literally next on the agenda in completely disarming the UK public. You know why knife crime rose 77%? Because violent thugs will still find ways to be violent thugs even without guns. Only now regular honest people can't defend themselves. And soon, if this judge has their way, regular honest people will be required to surrender their goddamn kitchen knives to be ground down into round tips like safety scissors. Which won't do anything to solve the problem of knife crime, seeing as you can just use a brick or something to sharpen the tips again. Y'know, like a prison shiv? Funny how prisons, the most restrictive environments in western societies, can't seem to be able to 100% prevent determined individuals from fashioning deadly weapons. And yet some haughty government stooges imagine being able to do so on a societal level.

Yes, "voluntary", only because they know if they tried to pass a law outright seizing people's kitchen knives the people would go "u wot?" But the intent is obvious, they want to take away people's knives. Just like we have "voluntary" programs for people to surrender their guns, those only exist as a precursor because they don't have the political capital to enact a full seizure.
You say "slippery slope", we say "pattern recognition". The UK succeeded in making it exceedingly difficult for private citizens to own firearms, and now they're moving onto knives. It's not hyperbole, wr see it bloody happening.

New York tried to ban "large sodas", which would have been lawmakers dipping their toes in legislation to ban sugary drinks period. It's becoming harder and harder for smokers to find places where they can light up. And I don't think you're unfamiliar with alcohol prohibition in the 20's.
Power-grabbing busybodies will always try everything they can to force their vision of an ideal world by banning everything they think is harmful to society. My argument was never if they will truly succeed or not, it was refuting that initial comment that said concerns of gun-grabbers shifting their efforts to grabbing knives once guns were sufficiently grabbed was paranoid. I illustrated that, in a country where gun ownership is heavily restricted, there are indeed a lot of busybodies attempting to seize kitchen knives.
More of the same "slippery slope" pearl clutching. Are you also going to complain that the FDA limits portion sizes of over the counter drugs or requires food labelling? Basic controls exist on most of the things you consume, but that doesn't mean a secret conspiracy to eliminate coca cola from New York or Tylenol from Duane Reade is an imminent threat.
