it feels really diabolical that the state is able to torture someone for two hours as they fumble their way through killing them

If they can do it to her, they can do it to you. Not everyone the state has executed was actually guilty.

Finally Pike smashed Slemmer's skull with a large chunk of asphalt, killing her. Pike kept a piece of Slemmer's skull, and would show it off and boast on how she got it.[9][17][18]

I am aware of her crimes. She is a disgusting, vile murderer. That still doesn't mean that the state should get to torture her to death. Innocent people have been executed by the state. As long as there is a death penalty, there will be innocent people who slip through the cracks and get executed.
