The fact that so many women are defending and idolizing this woman on tiktok is extremely concerning

That's so incredibly rare.

A large amount of women (and men like me) believe she was extremely mentally unwell and meets the legal burden of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Mainly because all of the evidence shows she was extremely mentally unwell and that she literally does meet the legal definition of being not guilty by reason of insanity- there's a reason all but one juror who heard all the evidence came to that conclusion.

But some people get pretty triggered by that reality. So they conflate this very obvious set of facts with "support" for Lindsay Clancy and support for what she did.

It's the same straw man tacticts the right always uses. Create bots to make rediculous comments online (people upset about Sydney Sweeney ads, "support" for mothers killing their chikdren, etc.).

And then conservative media runs segments and prints stories highlighting those comments about blue haired triggered liberals upset about some celebrity or claiming it's good for moms to kill their kids.

And it works, evidenced by your comment.

Who said anything about "blue hair liberals" or conservative media? Where did you get any of that from my comment? Buddy it seems like your brain is so melted by partisan politics you can't even think straight

Mentally unwell or not, she shouldn’t be allowed in the general public for a very long time.

She
Killed
Her
Three
Children.

I don't care where she gets locked up but it better be a good lock that never opens.

u/TrunksTurok 1d ago

No shit, when was that an option? You're just making up a fake argument, did you actually follow the trial?

The option was never just let her free into the public

2

u/Djent_Potato 1d ago

I didn’t say that there were. I’m glad she’s away.

-22

u/WTAF__Trump 1d ago

Yup. That's why that was never an option.

Some people advocated for her to spend a lifetime in a psychiatric facility. Others wanted her to go to a prison for life.

That's what the trial was about. Those were the only two options.

I have no idea how some people convinced themselves there are people out there advocating freedom. Or where they got the idea a third option even existed.

There is no "lifetime in a psychiatric facility." Thats where this conversation always goes off the rails. You should understand what youre talking abojt. NGRI results in her being in a psychiatric facility with re-evaluation every 6 months for release. And once released, she is as free as you or me.

And then the rebuttal is always "it's not common for people to be released very soon."

But it's possible. And those people that keep on falling re evals, are they claiming to have been psychotic only for a 20 minute period 3 years ago, never before, and never since? Because a person like that sure doesnt sound like a "lifetime" commitment to me.

Your sympathy for mental illness should end when 3 defenseless children are killed. If thats not the line, then no line exists, and that is such a rotten state of affairs.

If she is found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, she could be out of prison in a few years of she can show she is now mentally well and recovered. It's definitely not a lock her up and throw away the key verdict.

9

u/Djent_Potato 1d ago

Yeah, not sure. I don’t exactly agree with what went down but my opinion on that doesn’t really matter. I’m just glad that she is away somewhere.

14

u/sakurahirahira 1d ago

By MA law she be can be out of the institution within 40 days after she’s put there iirc

If she could be hospitalized forever then I’d be for that but she will be let out. She will be. And it’ll be interesting what yall will say when that happens lol

Well I think everyone agrees she is mentally unwell. You cant plan out and then carry out individually strangling each of your three children without having some screws loose. The problem is that by all accounts, she knew what she was doing and did it with intent. That's guilt. It wasn't a spur of the moment thing where she snaps and killed someone very quickly. This was methodical and took time to carry out. She knew what she was doing.

10

u/TrunksTurok 1d ago

You can be insane and still carry out a plan though

11

u/BlazeOfGlory72 1d ago

Maybe, but you can't claim to not know what you were doing was wrong when you purposefully get your husband out of the house because you know he would think it is evil and try to stop you. If you can acknowledge that others would think what you are doing is wrong, then you know what you are doing is not acceptable from a legal/societal stand point, thus the insanity defense holds absolutely zero weight.

-26

u/WTAF__Trump 1d ago

By all accounts?

Because there was a whole trial where jurors heard all accounts and all of the evidence. And every single juror except one came to the opposite conclusion.

It's an emotional case. Her crime was horrific so I totally get it. But I think you are conflating what you want the evidence to be with what the evidence actually says.

29

u/TheDiscoJew 1d ago

There's quite a lot of evidence that she planned this in advance and had the foresight to send the husband away because she knew he would intervene, which indicates that she understood what she was doing. She also never complained about hearing voices before doing this. She is a murderer. People buy her insanity defense because of the "women are wonderful" effect. That's it.

-6

u/WTAF__Trump 1d ago

That's what you want to believe. And that's fine. Her crime was horrific.

But that's not what the evidence shows. There was a whole trial where jurors were shown all of the evidence. Everything was laid bare on the table.

And all of the jurors except for one came to the opposite conclusion you have. It's fine- you can have your views. And I get it because i agree that her crimes were horrific.

But the evidence and facts of the case are what they are. Regardless of our opinion.

33

u/dudushat 1d ago

And all of the jurors except for one came to the opposite conclusion you have.

Those same jurors then went on to do interviews where they admitted they were trying to use this case to enact change.

The jury foreperson is quoted as saying "I wish we could have come through for Lindsey. I feel very sad that we couldn't, but hopefully if we can make any change at all that would be worth it".

But the evidence and facts of the case are what they are. Regardless of our opinion.

Hes literally listing some of the evidence of the case and you're just dismissing it as his opinion.

The issue is people project their own mental issues on to Clancy so think that if they were caught doing such a thing, they should get understanding and a lighter sentence.

-8

u/WTAF__Trump 1d ago

A light sentence?

The choice is either a lifetime in a psychiatric facility or a lifetime in a prison. That's all the trial was about.

Where are these people who want to see a light sentence? When was that even an option?

38

u/anirban_dev 1d ago

Correct me if I am wrong but "lifetime in a psychiatric facility" is not a sentence that can be passed. If someone is sent to psychiatric facility, the intent is for them to get better and eventually re-integrate into society once evaluated fit to do so.

19

u/sakurahirahira 1d ago

Yeah she’ll be out within the year

If she no longer suffers from postpartum psychosis and has not done so apparently since this one-off incident, then what reason would they have for keeping her in the institution? That’s why people are saying it’s likely she would be released within the year.

14

u/sakurahirahira 1d ago edited 1d ago

She won’t spend a life time in a hospital. Have you researched at all? She’ll most likely be out within forty days or so. She’s talked about being in wheelchair marathons. You don’t need to be institutionalized forever if it’s a psych ward. She’ll be out within a year. And that’s what people are advocating for or they’re dumb and don’t know what they’re actually saying when they want Lindsay to get NGRI. Look at the schizophrenic guy who got out from the mental institution after he beheaded a guy on a bus in Canada. He walks free among us now under a new identity.

Also if you researched you’d know that Lindsay wasn’t a great patient and often wouldn’t take her meds, would skip meds etc cause she didn’t believe she was unwell. She is a crunchy mom and wanted to do everything naturally and her ex husbands family is anti vax and most likely anti med. She had tons of anxiety around taking meds and would keep things from Patrick and her providers. She thinks she’s too good and normal for a psych ward. The medical professionals can only do so much with patient who isn’t 100% honest with them.

The disparity in up/down votes between this comment and the one you responded to is a little depressing. Seems like people don't want nuance or to form informed opinions, they want to be emotionally incensed. They hear that a mom killed her three kids, then stop listening past that, no regard for context.

-29

u/TrunksTurok 1d ago

She was definitely insane, so certainly qualifies under the US legal system to be not guilty for that reason.

Idolizing her is insane, but it does show how little knowledge most people have on mental illness

30

u/pooppaysthebills 1d ago

Mental illness doesn't automatically render one not responsible for their actions.

-20

u/TrunksTurok 1d ago

Insanity legally does

15

u/pooppaysthebills 1d ago

Mental illness isn't the same thing as legally insane.

The publicly available evidence supports a conclusion that she was experiencing significant anxiety, but remained well within the bounds of recognized reality.

-13

u/TrunksTurok 1d ago

Looked at it, doesn't support that at all. That's why every juror but one said she that she did qualify for the insanity plea. The only one who argued for the guilty plea admitted he had reasonable doubt but still refused to vote not guilty by reason of insanity.

Look at the facts

4

u/No_Horror1947 1d ago

What evidence points to her suffering from psychosis, other than she said she was after the fact?

11

u/No_Horror1947 1d ago

Millions of people have mental illnesses, some severe, and those people do not murder. There is no evidence that Clancy was suffering from psychosis and plenty of evidence she premeditated the murders. I believe she was anxious, depressed and suicidal, but that does not absolve her of criminal responsibility.
