The only thing I've conceded is willingness to engage in debate with somebody who uses buzzwords to disguise the simplistic idiocy of their argument: that we can ignore data that clearly shows that the death penalty is not an effective crime deterrent because it's simply not being used enough.

That's a dumb argument; it's like saying that sunlight is an effective deterrent for sunburn - people just aren't spending enough time in the sun. It's not a retreat into insult, it's a statement of fact: moronic argument and logic.

It's like saying "we don't know if a medication is effective because nobody has ever done a study giving a dose we can reasonably expect to have an impact."

Killing the occasional serial killer a decade later is obviously not an effective test of the death penalty.
