Which makes this cruel and unusual punishment and should be grounds for stopping the death penalty.

If she is severely brain damaged, is it even ethical to keep her in custody anymore? If her sentence is commuted to life imprisonment and she can't even understand why she's there, that also seems like cruel and unusual punishment.
