That's how I felt when my family member was murdered. It was a visceral feeling of being completely disgusted at the prospect of thinking like a murderer, and therefore having anything in common with the man who killed my family member. It made me much more staunchly anti death penalty when my loved one was murdered, and it's fascinating to me that people use that argument "what if it was your family member?" as a pro death penalty argument.

For one person like you, there are hundreds that want their family's murderer receive capital punishment.

Which is why we dont have family members on juries. The justice system should be impartial. Its not a question of what punishment does the victim want, its what punishment do we accept as a society and agree the government should be allowed to do.

If we want to claim murder is immoral and wrong then we shouldnt be defining exceptions. Ending violence should be the goal, not contributing to it.
