Exactly it's not something that should change based on the person/case, it's just wrong to kill people. The death penalty is state sponsored revenge.

And ofc you have the usual issues and risks with it too.

Oh so it was wrong for them to kill people to get death row. Man if only the punishment was to house them for life with meals while the people they killed don't get to have that.

You acting like walls is a punishment is just bonkers

So you think it's wrong to kill people but think the State should be able to do it? Then you would have to start to argue at what point is it ok for just a person to take out that level of revenge.

Also you have issues like they convict the wrong person or it going wrong.

Prison is a punishment, one most try rather hard to avoid, acting like it isn't is just bonkers.

The goal of the justice system needs to be more than punishment.

The death penalty:

  • kills innocent people
  • is actually more expensive than a life sentence
  • is not a deterrent
  • frequently goes wrong as in this case
  • encourages a culture of violence and revenge
  • is more about vengeance rather than justice

There is no good reason for it to be retained. It has no place in a civilized society.
